Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi People,

I currently drive a 1.4 2003 Ford focus lx, petrol.
I commute from Kildare to Dublin every day, its a 80Km round trip to and from work.

The petrol costs are pretty steep over a month and im just wondering would it be worth my while switching to a diesel engine since im doing a lot of driving?

If you're happy with your current car, i'd say no. Your mileage is a bit marginal for diesel and I think it'd take you a while to recoup the cost of changing.

If you are buying a new car (08 or newer) anyway, then the current tax regime means it would make no sense not to buy a diesel.

If you are just thinking of changing for the sake of it, there is prob no point.

The cost to change price from trading up from petrol to diesel will buy you alot of petrol in your current car.

Thanks for the replies people :)

I had kind of suspected as much but im not really informed on cars so i thought it best to ask at least.

My main motivation for looking at a change is because in november im going to be a daddy :) , which is most likely going to have me driving around a bit more.

If switching to a diesel could take down my monthly costs on fuel i would welcome it. But as you guys say, the cost to change would get me a lot of petrol in my current car.
