Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hopefully getting my first car in about a month. Got about 2k to spend. Thinking of a Peugeot 206 1.4, seen a few 99/00 models in my price range. Anyone got any other cars I should look for?

Renault Clio's arent too bad either, that and Toyota Starlets.

Any History with the car. Many previous owners. Mileage.

Was the timing belt done. Any work done on the car.

Whats the clutch like, check the condition of the clutch pedal.

Go around the panels of the car, make sure the gaps are all the same.

Check underneath as well as in and around the back of the engine.

Check for any leaking fluids. Don't be afraid to haggle. Good luck.

Dont really like the look of the Clio's or Starlets tbh, thanks anyway.

    Anyone else?

My first car was a colt, reliable as clockwork, but a tank on petrol for a 1.3 iirc. It was about 8 years old at the time though, so maybe irrelevant now.

You dont like starlets and that, good :pac:

A man with style! 2k is a good amount, have a look at an MX3, insurance is grand on them and they look good imo.

Your 24, have 2k and have 2 years no claims, you have it good Kev.

I would be looking at a nice 1.5-1.6 Jap!

Or just buy this for 700.They are bulletproof.

    Ford Fiesta:

Run out Ghia has lots of toys like air conditioning, cd player, etc normally reserved for bigger car. The 1.25 litre engine is very reliable and nippy. The Fiesta is also nice to drive, servicing and parts are generally cheap as there are so many of them around.

    Would be my first choice.

Out of curiosity what do you make of you mothers Fabia? I got one myself recently and I find it a great drive.

Cheers, two good cars there, really like the MX3, will do a search for them. Any other 2 door cars I should look for?

Have a look at the Toyota Cynos/Paseo. avoid 1.3 models as they're only 4 speed. the 1.5 is a muich better bet. tried and tested Corolla/Starlet mechanicals/electrics, easy enough to find parts for, and not too bad for insurance either.

Mitsubishi Asti are an interesting choice too. 1.3 and 1.5 engines available (also some faster stuff) not a great image though
