I broke up with my girlfriend recently and had to make the decision between :

    A: Finding another girl.
    B: Going Alone.
    C: Bringing a guy friend.

I know it's nice to have a pretty lady on your arm and all but I thought I'd honestly have more fun if I brought a mate :P

    He's a looker too!

I had my Debs last year, if you don't like terrible music and terrible food its a pretty 'meh' experience from a lads point of view, but the wimmens seem to love it.

Being the Ubermensch man that I am I had no bother (!!!!) but a few mates were up ****-creek at this stage of the year because they were...well...lazy.

Seriously, if you ask a friend of a friend of a friend they'll be more than happy to go in 99% of cases. Like I said, without generalising, it seemed to me girls enjoy the whole thing a lot more anyway. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going alone either, seriously- people will do it at your Debs, guaranteed. Nobody will look at you like you're some kind of deformed creature, they'll be far too drunk to see straight anyway.

****If you do bring a girl you don't really know, its no excuse not to be on your best behaviour. Buy the neccessaries, buy the mam some flowers if you end up being asked to a girls debs (happened me, she was chuffed!), and always remember early in the night the first few are on you sadly too!

Same I got invited to a Girl's debs- I got the right first impression with the mammy for the flowers and chocolates. :D

Well my date didn't drink alcohol so I didn't spend much on drinks, luckily.:)

Buy the girl a corsage and buy chocolates for her Mother.

Oh, and buy her a few drinks on the night.

I'd say something nice like a box of Milk Tray. You know, someting that has a rectangular shape and in a tin. Don't get roses unless you have to. (i mean the sweets, not the flowers) :pac:

I remember for the last debs that I bought flowers for the mother, chocolates (A small nice box) for the family and a corsage for the date. I was trying to make a good impression as it was my first. I'm going to do the same for my friend's debs on friday and my own in october.

It really did help as the mother, my date's sisters and the granny were really nice to me and all. I think it's usually either flowers or chocolates for the mother but I did my own thing and gave the chocolates as well. Usually at the girl's house a lot of family and friends can come down to see the dress, check out the date etc.. so having the chocolates and flowers imo helped me make a good impression to everyone.

Have a great time at the debs anyway ;)

Debs, what a fckn rip off. I won't even be able to afford a pint in there (€5) because of money wasted on flowers, chocolates etc. A joke is what it is imo. Wish I hadn't asked someone now.

It's called a corsage ... might be easier than going into the shop asking for "sun ting for her wrist r dress or something" and looking like a right ... male! >_>

    Oh, you poor thing!!

We all have such sympathy for you, right, lads?! :p

    Whut?!

Why the hell would I be buying a corsage for Dan's date?!! O_O

Unless ofc there's something in it for me ... >_>

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,362 ✭✭✭K4t

I meant in general. Buy your own flowers if you want them. Buy your own chocolates if you're hungry. Buy your own drink if you're thirsty. Equality is what those feminists call it I believe :pac:

In time you'll learn that leads inevitably to "Pull your own if you're ..." ... oh, wait, I probably shouldn't say that in this forum! >_>

    .......not going to pay up?

Sounds like the logic of a prostitute tbh.

    Only in extreme cases.

In this case, I would say it sounds like the logic of a woman faced with a guy without an ounce of chivalry or romance in him.

Oh, I don't know ... that might have made for quite a good story ... especially if you didn't specify who it was for!! :D
