The bootloader has crashed on mine and need a Jtag interface to fix it cheapest I've found on Ebay is €30 from Germany, any local UK/Ireland net shops that you know of who might have a cheaper one?

    Thanks in advance

    That's a typical price.

If you get a bus buffer IC and cut the printer plug off an old printer cable you can make one if you can solder. Plenty of circuits on the internet.

The dream box end uses 5 wires and the pins used on the parallel port depend on who's JTAG PC software you are using (xilinx and ARM JTAG adaptors are identical except for phyiscal connector on target end and pins used on Parallel port of PC).

The USB versions simply have a parallel or serial port USB adaptor built in. They are only needed if you have no parallel port. NO faster.

THe bus buffer IC is used to buffer PC level clock & data in to target system volts and buffer the return Data out. THe other two target pins are Supply and ground.
