Just my two cent anyway pingu_girl, at the end of the day Bounty Hunter is the boss man, not my humble self.:D

It will be very interesting to see the differences in rosters of people who were reared on the Attitude era and those who remember the glory days of Superstars etc. Should make for a fascinating exercise.

Agreed I can see the same more household big wrestling names in most people rosters, but the undercards should vary hugly as there is quite a diverce group of fans on here with prefrences to different companys and timelines.

yeah as flahavaj says all picks are considerd as being the peak versions of themselves.

So does that format suit? does anyone else think the number of titles / roster members allowed need to be alterd?

btw even though this has been my idea im fairly sure i wont win and im struggling to even put together a roster at the moment as my list of people i want to include is far too long.

I know this is prob in a few posts over the first page or two, but can someone clarify the rules as they stand now?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,955 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

These were the rules as of the first post im still open to changing them i.e roster numbers but the above apply for your pre planning before its official (when we have 20 entrants itl be official and ill ask Orestes or SR to add the updated rules/format to the original post).... and might i add *hic* ive had a couple tonight :D

    1) It must consist of 24 wrestlers (not including announcers, commentators etc)

    2) Your promotion must have a Heavyweight, mid card (IC/US type), Tag -team & Womens title. Any extra belts (hardcore, Cruiserweight etc) are left to your own discression or you could replace the mid card belt (and only this belt) with it.

The titles and limited roster number will ensure that you wont just be picking the top 24 names in pro wrestling history as you will want diversity on your roster i.e big stars who are also established tag wrestlers like Rock n Sock or The British Bulldogs, Female wrestlers who can also be Managers/Valets etc. You may need to forgo some bigger aes to avoid having too many faces/heels and to ensure your roster has some people who are good on the mic, high flyers, Credable Monsters etc hell you may even leave out a big name or two in order to have a jobber or two.

    and new updated entrant list:

Just a suggestion, but would 32 not be a better limit number? That way it averages out as 8 people per division.

Also, I have another suggestion. I think I would be right in saying once we have the 20, we just make up a post describing our rosters and card, right?
How about we divide it up, so that each week, we submit one division each week? That way this thing last 4 weeks?

well im not a hundred percent sure and if others want a version of what your suggesting to perhaps draw it out then id be up for doing it but as regards that suggestion there would be a few problems i would see.

firstly i dunno how many would want a week for submitting the womens division nor would it make all that good reading imo as I would imagine most people only picking say 5 women so as to make room for male competitors/more big names who there are so so many of available to you considering anyone from any time and promotion is available to be picked whilst forming the perfect roster.

Also tag division would most likely be made up of your midcard and HW division competitors anyway so as again be able to get as many as possible, and midcard division too would prob be made up of people able to move up to HW so the lines here would be very blurred. Again I suggest this because there are so many stars available that when forming your perfect roster you are more likely to find people having say The Brothers of Destruction or Rock n Sock than Demolition or whoever just to ensure they both get a tag divsion and the besty available big name HWs.

you arent the first to suggest allowing a bigger number of wrestlers on the rosters and as things stand ill prob add 1 or 2 more to how many are available but i doubt id go as far as 32. The low number ensures people have to be creative with who they pick and that we get different rosters as different people will leave out different names due to the smaller number. With 32 there would be less of a challenge in this manner and we perhaps would see more similar submissions.

your the first person to suggest a different format though and have had some good ideas and yes it prob would be better if drawn out a bit more. maybe instead of 1post we make it 2. 1 each week as suggested, the first naming your roster and outlining the divisions and the second the card and maybe a little section outlining the main feuds from your perfect roster.

I dont want to make this too complicated for people but i guess even having a 2nd post and adding that tiny bit more detail would make it easier to choose a winner too.

thoughts? if people disagree with anything ive said ill look at changing it of course but as I say speak up now as once we start thatl be it, the rules will be set... and of course there will be a big post from me explaining exactley what they are to avoid any confusion which ill ask a mod mod to copy into the OP probably.

Thanks for Running this Bounty Hunter.

I was thinking of ideas for the last couple of days and I am close to having my roster selected at this stage. But I have changed my mind a few times so who knows what will happen.

I have found the 24 number hard to work with. But it is a fair number as I had to leave guys out and it will help with variety.

your welcome although it hasnt gotten running yet tbh.

24 is hard to work with but i guess as you say thats kinda the idea as it helps with variety. So far however 2 people have suggested maybe making it a bigger number whilst youve said its a fair number so although no decision has been made im leaning towards maybe just allowing one extra roster member (so 25 in total).

I think i will officially announce the format and re-iterate the rules on Friday, which will also be the final date for entrants (although i would hope we would have 20 before then). Until then rules, format etc are still up for discussion.

I'd be in favour of not having the Womens Divison be a requirement. I'd rather replace the belt with a cruiserweight belt, for example.

well if your still in favour of having 4 belts / divisions then its just a personal opinion thing and although many may not rate womens wrestling I would imagine the perfect roster would involve a womens champion plus itd be handy to have women on your roster to interact with the men as they could have dual roles as managers/valets/love interest with the men aswell as wrestling.

In the OP i did say that the mid-card title didnt have to be IC or US that you could choose to make it a Cruiser or hardcore title for example.

however as with previous queries if enough people disagree and think the perfect roster should not include a womens champion/division then i would consider changing it before the rules are finalised.

That's fair enough, I'll do it if ya decide too, I just think that out of the 20 entrants, we'd probably see a LOT of matches invloving Trish, Lita and Beth Phoenix. I'd love to be proved wrong there though!! :)

I must admit its hard work slimming my roster down to 24 but thats what makes it a good challenge. If you're gonna increase it i would only do it by one or two.

The biggest problem is the womens division. To have a decent womens division you'll probably need at least 4 women and they cant double up in the tag team division like the heavyweights or the midcarders. I'd still prefer to have the womens division than the cruiserweight division.

agree 100% anymore than one or two, and it definately takes away from the challenge

yep despite suggestions for more i can only see an additon of 1 or 2 max to the current quota and as i said atm im considering it being 1 so 25 in total because as you guys say the small number is part of the challenge.

however that said i might allow free picks of people not allowed to wrestle just to add some colour to the chosen rosters i.e perhaps Commentators/GMs. I underline the not allowed to wrestle so as to emphasise that this isnt a way to sneak in aother wrestler for your roster, but you could use it to maybe emphasise a possible theme for your roster. For instance you might want Paul Heyman if you are assembling an extreme roster.

I like this idea, it gives you an option of bringing in a manager as well.

Excuse my thickness, is it a roster or a PPV card? Ive A great PPV card made using only 21 wresters :D

well i dunno about that as if i allowed managers be free picks people could pick lots of them and have a much bigger overall roster which would look far more impressive than the rosters of those who dont. I will clearly state which are considerd free picks and they will most likely just be commentators, GM/commishs and interviewers who cant get onvolved in matches. sorry about that but im trying to keep it as simple as possible and avoid people using loopholes etc to make their rosters the best. However perhaps i will add a stip like each roster can pick 1 manager too for free.

well its a roster but its not a think question as this thread could argueably be called the perfect PPV although i will try and emphasise that the PPV cards when posted are simply to illustrate how this roster could be used as we are looking for the perfect roster not the best ppv you all could imagine.

btw i should really post mine first as an example but ive had little time to think about my own roster tbh and right now think i might actually struggle in this despite it being my idea due to getting the thread going and organising stuff in my own life atm.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 741 ✭✭✭pingu_girl

Mines done anyways did it in an hour and a half and only need 23, didnt really have to think about it . Id post my roster/ppv now only for the fear of my ideas been robbed blind.

That and looking like a heedless dog when its done all wrong/before the rules are set :pac:

hope you still plan on picking atleast 24 (maybe more dependant on the eventual rules) though as even if its picking a jobber for your main event stars to beat on or a gimmick wrestler to fill a niche on your roster. You dont wanna miss an opportunity that others will avail of just cos you can make your perfect card using only 23 wrestlers.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,955 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

Okay here we go if anyone wants in and is in the first 4 to say so before midnight Ill add you but here are the rules/format we are following as this is the official start.
    .....

You make what you consider the ultimate pro wrestling roster using wrestlers from any promotion or time period. This roster can follow any style you wish and must only adhere to 2 rules.

    1) It must consist of 25 wrestlers (not including announcers, commentators etc)

    2) Your promotion must have a Heavyweight, mid card (IC/US type), Tag -team & Womens title. Any extra belts (hardcore, Cruiserweight etc) are left to your own discression or you could replace the mid card belt (and only this belt) with it.

    Free Picks
You can also add the following free picks to your roster if you wish 1 GM/Commish, 2 Commentators, 1 interviewer. These free picks can not be used as extra wrestlers so if you pick Jerry Lawler for example you only get the commentator.

Like with the draft anyone you pick is considerd being them in their prime and wrestlers from all promotions/age periods are available to be chosen.

    Format for submission
Your entrants will take the form of 2 posts, 1 per week (or if they are all in early, week 2 posts can begin early) and they will follow the following format.

    Week 1 post
in your first post you list your roster members and then describe the title divisions on what you suggest is "The Perfect Roster" as shown in the example below (taken from my own draft post inc 24 wrestlers), your explanation of the divisions does not have to look the exact same but should not be much longer than the below:
    Groups/Factions

The Bulldogs: The Dynamite Kid, Tyson Kidd, Davey Boy & Harry Smith, The british Bulldogs are currently tuitoring ther canadian counteparts especially Harry who idolises his father.
The Puerto Rican Nightmares: Eric Perez, Primo & their leader/mouthpiece Carlito Colon who use his cabana to further their agenda (Trish Stratus as Carlito's love interest also accompanies the group)
Team Omega: The remnants of the Organisation of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts with Steve Corino, Matt Hardy & Lita, they are involved in a on/off feud with The Puerto rican nightmares with Lita & Trish at the center of it.

    Tag Division

The Twin Towers (the Big Bossman & the One Man Gang), The Colon brothers, The Canadian Bulldogs, The British Bulldogs, Team Omega (Corino/Hardy), Silver King & D Wagner Jnr, Double Kong and Vilano IV & V

    Womens Division

Awesome Kong: Physically dominant African American Heel usually allied with Aja Kong
Aja Kong: Japanese technical yet powerful heel usually allied with Awesme Kong
Lita: Mexican trained, high flyng face female westler who is part of Team Omega with Steve Corino & Matt Hardy
Trish Stratus: Beautiful blonde canadian bombshell who has the backng of the Puerto Rican Nigtmares.

    Regular IC Title Competitors

The Dynamite Kid, Matt Hardy, Carlito, any tag wrestler being pushed

Wrestlers who may go for the IC or HW titles

Steve Corino, Bryan Danielson, The British Bulldog, Abyss

    Regular HW title competitors

Bruno Sammartino, Big Van Vader, Muhammad Ali, any midcader being pushed

    Week 2 post

In the second week you get the chance to produce a PPV card to show just how your roster could be utilised. This isnt to be a hugely detailed card as this isnt the draft evaluation thread instead it should be somewhat similar to the example below except obviously using your roster and whatever matches you choose. If you wish to put in who wins the matches thats up to yourself
    Mr Gruppa wrote:
    WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
    MITSUHARU MISAWA (C) vs. GOLDBERG

    STEEL CAGE MATCH:
KERRY VON ERICH vs. NIGEL McGUINNESS

    NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH:
“ROWDY” RODDY PIPER vs. FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.

SID VICIOUS vs. “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE

TOO COOL (GRANDMASTER SEXAY & SCOTTY 2 HOTTY) vs. UMAGA & RIKISHI

WPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATION MATCH:
KEVIN STEEN & EL GENERICO vs. ELIJAH BURKE & MONTY BROWN vs. TAKA MICHINOKU & SHO FUNAKI

you can also write a max of 10 lines below your card where you can decide what to write whatever you want be it: why someone should vote for your roster over others as the perfect roster, a description of what makes your roster unique, talk about the major feud/feuds v briefly etc

after everyone has submitted both posts we vote on a winner

    Voting

*everyone taking part gets 1 vote
*to vote PM me with your top 3 choices
    *1st gets 5 points, 2nd gets 3pts, 3rd gets 1 pt

whoever gets the most points will obviously win and their roster will be crowned "The Perfect Roster"

    .....start when ready

    My roster:

1.Austin(The man who made Vince a billionaire)
2.Hogan(The man who made Vince a millionaire)
3.Flair (The greatest all rounder of all time)
4.Santo (The most famous man bar none in Mexico)
5.Sammartino (the longest running sell out of MSG of all time)
6.Rikidozan (So important in Japan he is taught as part of history in schools)
7.Lou Thesz (The greatest NWA champ of all)
8.Hart (One of the greatest technicians ever)
9.HBK (One of the top five all rounders ever)
10.Randy Savage (One of the great all time workers and hugely popular)
11.Benoit (greatest worker of all time)
12.Kobashi 9Most charasmatic japanese wrestler ever, true icon)
13.Misawa (One of the best wrestlers ever, probably Japan's best)
14.The Rock (Unparallelled charisma and popularity)
15 &16.Road Warriors (Greatest drawing tag team ever)
17 & 18.Funks, Terry and Dory (NWA champs as singles, both Hall of Famers, legends)
19 & 20.Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard(Horsemen, great tag or singles)
21.Manami Toyota (Tope ten worker male or female ever, greatest female)
22.Fabulous Moolah (Greatest all round fefmale ever, wrestled for 5 decades)
23.Akira Hokuta (2nd greatest female worker ever, champ in WCW)
24.Trish Stratus (Greatest fenale wrestler since 80's, glamour and huge popularity)

    WHC contenders:
This division is reserved for the wrestlers who can genuinely claim to have changed the history of pro wrestling for the better in some way and I've chosen the greatest drawing superstars and money makers ever. these atre the guys people paid money to see more than any other in the history of wrestling

    Austin
    Hogan
    Flair
    Santo
    Sammartino
    Rikidozan
    Lou Thesz

    IC Title contenders:
This is the workrate division. These guys are the greatest in-ring wrestlers ever. they would have sensational matches and in their own eras where all world champs themselves. Any one of them would easily be elevated to World Title contention.

    Hart
    HBK
    Randy Savage
    Benoit
    Kobashi
    Misawa
    The Rock

    Tag teams:
These are the greates teams ever. Another addition would be Misawa/Kobashi as well as dream pairs like Thesz/Sammartino and Rock/Austin.

    Road Warriors
    Terry and Dory Funk
    Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard

    Women

    Manami Toyota
    Fabulous Moolah
    Akira Hokuta
    Trish Stratus

Authority Figure: HAS to be Vince Mc Mahon
Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, JR, Jesse Ventura and Bobby the Brain Heenan

I would also form the 4 Horsemen with Flair, Anderson, Tully Blanchard and Benoit. I think this would be the best possible combo of Horsemen in history.

There could also be a Japanese faction with Misawa/Kobashi/Rikidozan/Toyota/Hokuta. That woud be the greatest faction of wrokers EVER assembled.

I think the Funks would find a good ally in Stone Cold, basically three teak tough crazy Texans who don't give a damn about anything or anyone.

    Week 2 post

In the second week you get the chance to produce a PPV card to show just how your roster could be utilised. This isnt to be a hugely detailed card as this isnt the draft evaluation thread instead it should be somewhat similar to the example below except obviously using your roster and whatever matches you choose. If you wish to put in who wins the matches thats up to yourself

in the first rules post i had said there would also be 10 lines where you can explain/promote your roster but that will now be Rd3 and you will have more lines... we need a 3rd round to help seperate similar rosters for voting.
    Mr Gruppa wrote:
    WPW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP:
    MITSUHARU MISAWA (C) vs. GOLDBERG

    STEEL CAGE MATCH:
KERRY VON ERICH vs. NIGEL McGUINNESS

    NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH:
“ROWDY” RODDY PIPER vs. FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR.

SID VICIOUS vs. “RAVISHING” RICK RUDE

TOO COOL (GRANDMASTER SEXAY & SCOTTY 2 HOTTY) vs. UMAGA & RIKISHI

WPW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP ELIMINATION MATCH:
KEVIN STEEN & EL GENERICO vs. ELIJAH BURKE & MONTY BROWN vs. TAKA MICHINOKU & SHO FUNAKI

If you wish to you can also add things like match time lenght, PPV name, who the current champions are but we dont need write ups for each match and how they go down as we are judging the best roster not storyteller.

...I was being honest about not having put any thought into my roster upon selection so not expecting to win ill put me own up in the next 20mins or so as another example if needed
