Oh im sorry, does Europe have some convention where the team on the left is always the Away team or something?

First I heard of it, to be perfectly honest.

I was for ages figuring out where the detroit pistons and penguins game was going on a few weeks back

    even tonight

LA were playing AT HOME vs Real Salt Lake a while ago

    the scores were like

    RSL 2 LA 0

that is just fcuked up man.....

must have originated at baseball and moved onto all main stream sports

    Nicks AT Cubs

Left team is the home team

    DUBLIN 1,20000 V NEW YORK 3

    in USA terminology

    NY at Dublin

    NEW YORK 3 DUBLIN 1,2000

There was a convention in place in Europe for decades, whereby the home team came first (on the left, or on top) followed by the away team (on the right, or on the bottom) but it seems to have been quietly eroded over the last 18 months by companies broadcasting GAA, and it's beginning to drive me insane. Whoever's in front in terms of scoring now gets preference and where you were looking at one county's score before they scored a goal or a couple of points you're now looking at the opposition's score.

Get it fixed RTE and TV3, I don't mind which convention you go for, I'd just like a bit of consistency!

    OP (and others):

if you find that confusing, don't go driving on the continent. They drive on the wrong side of the road.

yeh, they drive AT the right hand side...

and to another poster you shouldn't have to friggin google to see where a game is going on home or away.

    Nicks AT Cubs
What the hell sports are you watching?

Chill out. It's not that big a deal. If I had to pick a side, I'd prefer the North American one. It encodes more information explicitly. If you were used to Home v. Away, and read Away @ Home in the paper, you'd get it. It doesn't work the other way...

I'm sorry.....that's the 'right' side of the road.

You're still driving on the side of the road that your British masters instructed you to walk/drive on.

    3......
    2........
    1...........
