Coaching Course

I've done a little research on the web, mainly swim ireland's site, and haven't been able to find much info.

I used to do quite a bit of competitive swimming when I was younger and I would love to get involved in the coaching side of things now. Would anyone have any info on where I could do a course? I live in South Dublin so somewhere close-ish would be great!
    Thanks!

I had a look on the Swim Ireland site and that's what I found. I didn't look at them so not sure of the exact details. Also did you swim in Dublin? Because once you've qualified you could ask your old club if you could help out there.

Swim Ireland have recently revamped their courses and have introduced the same system as the UK. This has involved a lot of retraining of tutors and officials over the last year or so. This was supposed to be finished at the beginning of this year so there should (hopefully) be an increase in the amount of courses available in the near future. I don’t believe there has been a coaching course run in Ireland in the last 3 years at least [either lane or club coach].

Having said that, you don’t technically need a ‘coaching’ qualification to coach. As long as you have a teaching certification and have someone willing to let you coach and gain experience, you’re right where you want to be.

So I believe you need to start from the beginning and work your way up. Assistant teacher then teacher course etc. I think that’s level 1 then level 2, although it seems you can become a lane coach with out being a teacher? If I’m reading the information from Sockpuppets link right? I still haven’t gotten my head around these courses or levels yet.
