Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

STAR........of stage, screen etc..can't abide it,loathe, detest, rage, vomit, excrete when used particularly in the media by those who really believe their own words are gospel in relation to entertainment and they are privy to a seriously important world ...which is really superficial, trite and overra:eek:ted

    Unorganised. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Disorganised, please.

Also, every sporting occasion now seems to be "historic". Well, yeah, they're all in the past and therefore part of history, but are they really a great and momentous occasion? Every single match?

    This thread is awesome.
I literally laughed my head off reading the last few pages.
But some people do need to chillax- they're just, like...words!
Irregardless, there are deffo some random words that grind my gears.
Can't think of any at the moment.
Going forward i'll think of some though. :pac:

Any American words / English words picked up from fashionable tv programmes...

When Friends was big, "That is SO not a red shoe"

"End of." or "Simple as." which mean the same thing as...
    period.
Don't understand why you tack that onto the sentence at all.
AAGHH! Because "Period" is the american word for "Full Stop" (as in the punctuation mark at the end of a sentence.) So they saw it on telly, weren't sure why they used the word Period, but use it now anyway.
    playdate
Oh no! People are using this in a non piss-take context?
"I do be in school every week"
Why do people use it? Is the normal present tense not good enough for them?
What's wrong with that? Using the present tense refers to what's currently happening, whereas I want to talk about what I do be doing on an ongoing basis...

    Agree with "Awesome"... Grr...!
    a tad
This isn't so bad, but "A tad bit"... !!!!!

And people offended by the use of the word cúnt annoy me! It's like it's the fashionable word to be offended by!

And people using big/unusual words to sound more official, but getting them wrong! I got an email the other day from someone saying they would "Revert" to me! What's wrong with "Reply" or "Respond"? You once were me, changed into you, but next week you're going to revert to me?

Cant stand the word "Legend", when said in that late ninties, ealy 21st centuary UCD way.

Edit : Or "Random", as in " Oh your just so random"
or "Banter" as in " Bad banter" or "good banter"

It's more the pronunciation of words rather than the words themselves that get me.

The scone, vase and envellope debates can get pretty heated, I'm telling you!

I don`t have any particular words that I hate, but I do despise all that office management jargon. You know, stuff like "blue sky thinking", or "360 degree thinking".

Downtime & Chillax - are the words that annoy me the most

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 84 ✭✭GlindaGale

    Actually

I hate when people use the word actually in every sentence, it drives me nuts!! Especially when they pronounce it "acshully", that's NOT A WORD!!! Aaaaaggggh!

You need to come out of your comfort zone and start thinking outside the box.
Lets touch base about this sometime.

    Please do the needful.

    Boffins at a German university...
    Eggheads at an American laboratory...

    Strongly dislike those words.

    Nerd.

What bothers me is that people would use a word with such loserly connotations to define/pigeonhole themselves.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭Dan Chipowski

Proactive is awful, but it's use is dying out a little. It had a huge boom period there circa 2004/2005. Chillax is terrible too, I also detest the words babe and hun. And the argument I only hate them because I am never called either of them is only semi-valid :)

From the annoying "legend" to the inexcusable shortened version "ledge" to the abomination that is "ledge bag".

Didn't think you could get a worse version of legend but "ledge bag" does indeed manage to be far worse.
