Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Are there any arcade sticks that feel as smooth as the X360 pad stick?

Hey lads! I tried a couple sticks yesterday (one was the hori EX3 and the other was the SFIV TE stick). I was having loads of trouble pulling off special moves (SFIV) with the hori and ironically, almost couldn't pull off any special moves with the TE edition stick. I felt that my problem was that I wasn't really comfortable with the joysticks on both but felt more dialled in with the EX3.

Anyway, I think the source of the problem was that I could feel the click of the gates (I think?) which must've confused me a bit while I was playing. The thing is though, I can pull off any special moves with the joystick from the standard X360 pad so what I wanted to ask, are there any arcade sticks that feel as smooth as the pad's stick? Thanks.

You could try a standard Saulabi -- mini-review here.
It has a round gate, and leaf-switch stick, so it doesn't "click" like most microswitched sticks. Additionally, the round gate feels totally different from most Jap sticks, which are square gate.

Did you get to try out my Saulabi (the big yoke with the yellow buttons)?

I had one of those, the stick in mine was muck. I found it hard to hit diagonals and after a week I could barely do fireballs on it.
I do enjoy fancy look of the joystick though :pac:

Tried out them official madcatz sticks for the first time when we met up. Was impressed with them. But tbh, Im happy enough with my play with my gamepad so I'm probly gonna stick with it.

As to the clicks, I found them great :D. Made me sure I was hitting my inputs. Maybe you will just get used to them mate.

When I first got my stick about 3 weeks ago I had awful trouble the first day I got it. Couldn't pull off any special moves at all really. The next day things improved and by the third day I was fine. Can pull off specials very consistently now, although I'm still not great with dragon punches and supers under pressure. You just have to get used to it but the difference is huge when you do get used to it. It's much better although I much prefer the octo gates to the square gate I have in mine. Square gate definitely takes more getting used to.

Crap, forgot to bring my spare octo gate! Next time, I'll remember for sure.

You need to spend some time to get used to it is the basic answer.

But you're good with the 360 pad so maybe there's no need for a stick?! If you feel that there are certain things that you can't do with the pad, then try getting used to a stick. If you're executing everything you plan to execute with the 360 pad, I'd say stick with it (no pun intended, haha)

Also, you could try my stick next time - animaX still had the stock EX2 stick in his I believe, whereas the TEs have Sanwa JLFs in them, which are quite sensitive, and not that stiff. You might prefer the Seimitsu LS-56 that I have in my SE (thanks again to KO Kiki), it's a lot stiffer.
