Distortion on Lyric FM from Kippure

Just wondering if anybody has experienced distortion on Lyric FM from Kippure on 98.7? It seems to only occur when music is playing, ie., not during announcements(which are, I suspect in mono whereas most of the music is in stereo).

It's not terribly obvious but putting the volume at moderately loud makes it a bit easier to detect. (and it's not my stereo...I tried it next door with the same result).

I've phoned RTE three times but E haven't had even the courtesy of a reply.

Could be a fault in their stereo encoder.

Is it on any of their other frequencies

Can you switch your radio to mono ? If so does the distortion dissapear ?

I tried switching to mono...there's a definite improvement.

I'd be interested to hear from anybody within range of Kippure...in case it's just me who is experiencing the problem....although I have to say that I have line of sight to the mast.

Each TX may have its own processor. They used to be at the site but I'm not sure if they still do it that way.

I was also listening to Lyric on Sunday (I think) and noticed distortion. I have no idea which TX it was tho. I was just scanning while driving and stopped on Lyric for a bit.

Is this the correct forum for this ??

Was it RTÉ's main reception or RTÉ NL Network Monitoring Centre you called?

The guys in RTÉ NL handle calls from the pubic if reception is poor.

They are based at all main TX sites

Nobody called back but the distortion is gone.

Probably couldnt afford the phone call.....
