I see they also want to introduce a sort of a broadband 'Tax' on every phoneline in the UK so they can fund broadband rollout for the whole population. Could something be done like that here?

The Irish Government takes more VAT from line rental in Ireland than any government in Europe does , approx €4.50 a month is taken from you this way . In most countries it is more like €2.50 .

You could try to mention this to Eamon Ryan. I bet he will never answer you though
