Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So lads, bought a nice 00 corolla last night but it has a tape deck, want to change it to a cd unit but just rang Toyota and they said that the single cd unit has been discontinued, only a 6 disc unit available at almost €600!!! Anyone have this problem? Anyone know where I could get the unit? The part no is 0860100906.

Any help would be great thanks!

Why not just buy a new car stereo? If you're not looking for anything fancy you can get some really great cheap ones

It might be a pain in some cars if it's not a standard single DIN head unit. It might be an integrated unit. Some cars just don't look right with a non-OEM head unit.

metalgear2k2 - try eBay or breakers for the single CD unit.

The advantage of a tape deck is that it provides a very cheap way to connect an MP3 player. The tape adapters are only a fiver, and give a much better sound quality than an iTrip type thing.

Thats right its not 1 whole unit, the radio part is built into the top of the dash and the tape deck unit is just in front of the gear stick, dont think an aftermarket one would fit? tried ebay, couldnt find one. waiting for some scrapies to ring me back.

Can the tape deck adaptor be used with an ipod?

I have a 00 Toyota Corolla that had a tape deck when I bought it, I just got an ordinary car CD/radio and put that where the tape deck is. The part thats built into the dash still shows up the temp and the time so it looks fine.

Yup, anything with a standard 3.5mm jack connection will work

Sometimes it's a standard headunit with a fascia that you can buy that fits over it to make it blend into the dash. Google "2000 Corrola fascia" and see if you can do that.

Yep, just plugs into the earphone socket and you're sorted.

Does the OP know how to use a tape deck? ;)

I currently have a 99 Corolla which I bought from my sister. She put a radio into it years before I got it, which was built into the top of the dash. The new radio fitted well into the exiting slot, while the tape deck at the gearstick was replaced with a small, for lack of better term, glovebox. Basically just a small compartment, closed with a small plastic door.

Although this might take a bit of work, due to trim and stuff, it's easily doable, looks great and is very convenient. If you still wanted to try and find an original Toyota cd player, perhaps try some Toyota garages too. Or even some small stores which specialise in car audio systems, who may know how to get hold of one

    €600? ouch.

you'd get one of these with some change: Click here

you'd get even cheaper ones but that one is the official toyata one.

I'm baffled as to why anyone would want to use CDs. They scratch, hold fup all music (unless MP3s) and they are big and awkward.

Portable HDs with a library of music is the only way.

Yeah, I usually listen to my mp3 player driving. Either through the radio if possible (via AUX connection) or one of those stupid FM transmitters.

Thats why I'm scared of getting a Peugeot 307. Might not be wise putting the stereo I bought for the Corolla 2 months ago into it due to electrical issues. Which sucks cos it had AUX connection, USB port, and Bluetooth hands free.

Thats a good point, might just leave it in and use the deck to list to my ipod. Thanks for all the replys!

P.S Its a 00 silver toyota corolla, 3 door GS model. 80,000 gen milage. timing chain done 5,000 miles ago, all serviced up, 2 new tyres. no marks, very clean. got it for €2950, private sale. Do ye think its a good deal?

I like the idea of head units that take SD cards. I see Lidl have one for 90 bux that will also bluetooth to your phone. The front seems a bit like a pinball machine however.

Lidl headunits are awful. even though they are packed with features they are utterly unusable.

It crossed my mind, the prefacelift "bug eye" corolla had a normal single din radion in a pod at the top of the dash. Would this pod fit your car? You would probably get one from a scrapper.

You would loose the trip computer, but this is a gimmick anyway.

1999 Corolla had a different facia layout to the OP's 2000 Corolla though. In the 1999 Corolla it was just an after market unit slotted into the top of the dash. In the 2000 model the stereo was integrated and replaced by a display unit on the top that controlled the OBC and stereo, the tape deck was moved further down just above the ash tray.

    1999 Corolla:
    media?id=5459378&width=400&height=300

    2000 Corolla:
    media?id=7075828&width=400&height=300

It is possible to replace the seperate tape deck with an aftermarket unit afaik, you will need a facia bracket to fit around the new head unit though.

Ah right, didn't know that. Didn't think there'd be any real difference between them. Fair enough so

Installed a headunit in brother 00 corolla. No fascia required. Head unit goes in where tape deck is currently. You need a iso adapter from a car accessories shop - costs about 10euro. Good selection of head units in the likes of Argos. They had a nice Pioneer on sale upto last week with USB for 91euro - back upto 111euro now I think.

swapping the tape unit looks messy, the best thing to do its get the correct Toyota DIN adaptor (as fitted to the 99 Corolla) and fit a single DIN box where the cassette unit was.

Hi guys, does anyone have any opinions on this unit
    http://www.oemautosound.com/pc-339-101-pie-toy-aux-toyota-1998-2005-auxiliary-input-adapter.aspx

Is this only for CD units only or both the cd player and tape player for the 00 Corolla?
