    You need someone who reads Japanese, rather than someone that speaks it. The message says "Please enter the 'furigana' (i.e. syllables) for the surname". Japanese surnames are written in kanji, but the problem is that there can be various readings per symbol, so the same two or three kanji can potentially be pronounced several different ways. If you're entering a non-Japanese name, it can be difficult for Japanese people to figure out the pronunciation. Either way, this program is asking you to enter (in katakana) the pronunciation for the particular surname you're entering.

    Surely you could have looked this up in two minutes in a dictionary?
