Hello all, i have just been told that i am not eligible for braces to be covered by my medical card. They said my teeth are not bad enough to qualify which is a load of bullcrap because my brothers teeth are far better than mine and he got his braces under his medical card. Anyway, does anyone know a place in cork that do braces for a reasonable price and more importantly will allow me to pay for them in installments as i am a student and money is hard to come by these days for me? thanks in advance! :):)

As far as i know, HSE does not accept patients over 16 for braces. Try the dental Hospital in Wilton.

you see the thing is, i was on the waiting list for braces but because i didnt qualify the govt consider it as cosmetic braces and not as a necessity so thats why i have to pay for them. i just wanted to know from someone who had gotten them if they have ever heard of a finance plan that allows you to pay so much off them each month! thanks for you reply! :D

usually you have to pay a certain amount at the start of treatment to cover the dentist's costs and the you pay the rest in instalments as treatment progresses. But if you are a student (in Cork?) why not try the dental hospital as Davo suggests. Treatment is good and they are cheaper. your visits may be longer but if you have free time that should not be an issue.
Are there no Hungarian or Turkish orthodontists in Cork?

With any dental the 2 out of 3 rule applies.
Dental Hospital is quality but slow.
Dental tourism may lack quality becuse its done too fast.
Specialist treatment has quality but not cheapness.

I would just shop around and don't be afraid to ask if they have an instalment plan. I would warn you not to go with a very cheap dentist as you have to wonder why this is the case? You could end up doing more damage to yourself!! Best of luck with the search!

    Hi,
Just got braces from new specialist in Mallow. Not a general dentist, but has the extra qualifications so is a registered specialist and was cheaper than quotes from general dentists. Pay initial downpayment followed by monthly installments. Google mallow orthodontist. I think he is also in Midleton.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for all your replies. So i found a place in Wilton called Harley Court Orthodontics and the woman on the phone said they would probably cost me around 1800 euro. She said there is no large deposit and that because i was a student that we could discuss a monthly payment that i could afford.
Sounds too good!! :) Anyone have any experience regarding quality with this orthodontist ?

@SaraG : Is that guy in Mallow called Pat Penny ? I will give him a call b4 going ahead with the one in wilton.

    Hi ,
As previously posted, got braces a few weeks ago in Mallow from new orthodontist. Also has practice in Midleton so google him. Paid lump sum and the rest will be in instalments.
Make sure you are going to specialist and not general dentist.
Teeth are moving already sooooh delighted. Should have had it done years ago.
    Hope this helps.
    LOL..SaraG :)

She said that they would cost about 2000 euro if i just needed the top ones done which i do. I need to get a crown or something on one of my main front top teeth because it is kinda loose and discoloured. I think it could be dying. But i dont know if i need to get the braces first or the crown first?

One of your top teeth is loose?. I presume you knocked it at some stage and it is becoming darker in colour now. Were you told you needed a root canal AND a crown or just a crown?. If you're not sure what treatments you are getting done and in what order, ask your dentist or orthodontist to make out a treatment plan for you.
