    6. The Lisbon Treaty also makes large-scale changes in the numbering of the articles in the TEU and the TFEU. Article 5 of the Treaty and the Annex to which it refers provide for the renumbering in accordance with a table of equivalences.

It's the table which relates the pre Lisbon number of an article of the TEU or TFEU to the post Lisbon number of that article (or it's equivalent).

so could it be largely ignored? to save time

just read the text and ignore them

The table just shows the renumbering/addition of Articles to the TEC and TEU when amended by Lisbon (ToL).

So for example, from the table of equivalences (page 202 ToL), Article 1 TEU_amended remains Article 1 in TEU_original, with some changes as given in Article 1 ToL. Article 1a ToL becomes Article 2 in TEU_amended. Article 3 TEU_amended is based on Article 2 in TEU_original, with some changes as given in Article 2 ToL. And so on...

but are all the changes mentioned in the actual text of the treaty?

as in can those tables be largely ignored for the average reader?

I've never had any reason to use them anyway. You don't need them. Also, if/when you read the consolidated version of Lisbon, every article title will also be labelled with its original article number, where appropriate.

Edit to add: Yes, every change is mentioned in the Treaty itself.

grand that shaves off numerous pages - of what looks like would be a pain in the ass to read or write and make sure they all work and are accurate - jeesh that would have been hard going

    right thanks all!
