Diving South of France and North Italy,

    Hey all,
    Heading to south of France Hossegor for some surfing and then onto Nice, monte carlo, and over to Portofino and down to Rome on a road trip. Can anyone recommend some diving over along that route, expecially around Hossegor/Biarritz because if the surf is flat then ill go diving. I am doing a dive in Portofino, "the Christ of the Abyss" has anyone done this dive? looks fairly cool, 4 m statue of Christ underwater version of the Christ the redeemer in Brazil.
    Also any spots around the Cote d Azur would be greatly appreciated.

    There is a small dive shop in Villefranche sur mer which is near Nice. It is in the older part of the village near the harbour and is easy to find. They have dive trips, but I don't know what they are like.

    The coast to the east of Frejus/San Raphael is very good for diving

    BTW that statue "Christ of the Abyss" was vandalised lately, and reportedly has one arm and one hand missing.

    Well i heard an anchor broke the handoff years ago and it was cleaned and replaced a couple of years ago around 2003, hopefully it hasnt been vandilised since then, Who would bother doing such a thing,
