Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm hoping to buy Nikon AF-D 50mm f1.8 for my D40. It costs €144 on Pixmania.
What is the best/cheapest place to buy?
    Thanks.

Question from a nooblet: does AF-D mean it will autofocus on a D40?

I believe that AF-D does not autofocus on the D40. For autofocus on my camera, I would need an AF-S lens.

Thanks Simplicius. €96 from Keaphoto.com including shipping sounds very good.

Any opinion about this lens before I take the plunge?

Is Kea HK based? I know a lot of people have dealt with them from here and have found them very good.

Just to be aware if purchasing outside of the EU of chances of import duty / excise / customs to be factored in to your overall purchase price as well as returns issues.

*note to other posters - it is not permissible to discuss import tax avoidance mechanisms. Thank you.

    The 50mm f1.8 AF-D will NOT focus on the D40, D40x or the D60.

There is a AF-S version of the 50mm f1.4, that will work on the D40 - but it's very expensive.

    The 50mm f1.8 is a great lense.

They will also come up from time to time on Adverts.ie. I bought mine off of ebay. I'd consider the 50mm f1.8 to be an essential part of my kit.
