Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The tripod is decent quality, but the head is shaky when used with a heavy camera.
I bought one last time around, but if using a heavy setup, the head isn't solid enough to be able to press the shutter, without some vibration. It's fine if you use a cable release or the timer, and it's ideal to use for holding a strobe or reflector.

Splash out and buy a more solid tripod if interested in long zooms, or long exposures.

Jeez, the hurley bag is a bit mincer-ish! How much of a slagging would you get if you turned up sporting that little gem!? :D

I picked up one of those tripods last time they had the deal and for the price of it you couldn't pass it up if it even lives permanently in the boot of the car :)

It isn't really up to a DSLR with large lens but great for smaller cameras and very useful as a stand for external flash / strobes etc.... Hard plastic screws, connectors, etc..

I found with a DSLR plus 70 - 300 (which is a heavy beast anyhow) it was a bit too much for it. It certainly would hold it but would I trust my baby on it? Nooooooo...... Might be ok with a 50mm lens or something light weight.

Again, for the money don't pass it up - If you only ever used it once it to hold a strobe it would be worth it. Infact its worth it just for the canvas carrying case if you were to throw away the contents ;)

even lives permanently in the boot of the car smile.gif
    ...that'd be my thinking !
How much of a slagging would you get if you turned up sporting that little gem!? biggrin.gif
...and then pull out you 'wavin' hurley, should get a good laugh I reckon ! :pac:
/mmm.....just wondering if the 'pros' would use them on long jurneys, ie. planes etc !

I think the hurley bag would really take the "Hardness" out of the sport! No one messes with a guy carrying a hurley, even if he's ten and three foot nothin'!!

Put it in a bag, and it's open season!

The cards fine by irish standards of price, though I was in germany at one of their large electronic shops and they had Toshiba SD 2GBs at 5.99 *and* buy 2 get 1 free

    Edit: price mistake

i have that stand, lives in my boot but I use it nearly everytime I take out the camera

I payed a bit more for mine but Its well worth getting it for that money

And as the guys said, it is a bit shakey with anything too big

Don't see anything wrong with it. Great little P&S and not a bad price too

What is the max height of the tripod?
(156cm like the last one on Aldi's .co.uk site?)

It would proabably be quite wobbly at that height imo

Overall, the quality is good at Aldi.
I am always concerned that if a spare part is required, you are on your own.

Nothing wrong spec wise, but i'm just wondering if anyone has direct experience of this particular camera. Non branded stuff or generic branded stuff (in the past i've bought some - not from aldi - but of the non brand variety) have been very disappointed in the results realm for me.

If you were of a mind to hold off for a while and continue to save, you'll soon be in the league of looking at a P&S of the canon, nikon, pentax, olympus, fuji, or sony variety. I'd just be more comfortable with one of these brands to be honest.

Again, that doesn't say that the specific model referred to won't be good. I don't know that.

Strange that you should mention it but Vivitar was the brand which was purchased some time ago (referred to in my post above).

I already have a Fuji S8000fd, but thought it might be handy to have a second smaller camera that I can stick in my backpocket when I'm out and about.
