Anyone remember their first 'big' kids book?

By first 'big' book,I mean the first time you remember reading a book with no pics, pure text, small font and getting hooked. My first was a Famous Five. In the late 1950's there was no television. The children's library was a short detour on the way home from school. Money was tight in those days so Famous Five and Secret Seven books were free entertainment. Treasure Island was probably the first big book (physical and content) I read.

Looking back I think I was lucky to have the library and no television.
