Avoiding speed cameras

So I got my second speeding ticket of the year from speed cameras lately, and am obviously not thrilled about it. Which got me thinking- why not just change my registration plate? I mean when was the last time the Guards ever checked to see if a car has the right plate? Even if they do check if it's stolen, it'll just come up that it's not (unless I'm very unlucky) and they'll wave me on. But I don't even think the Guards have a computer in the car that they can check on like American cops. So I'm thinking it's win win all around. Might even change it for this year and say to people that I got a new car of the same model, sure my car looks brand new anyway.

What do people think- genius or completely thick? Does anyone know what the penalty is for having fake plates?

I don't know the penalty, but the last time i check, if the gaurds pull you for speeding, then realise you're using the wrong plate, you're going to be a whole heap of shít.
    It's pretty thick...

I was thinking about this lately too as a kind of scam, its a dirty one and i wont be doing it but it could work! basically, when around town, keep an eye out for a car the same year, colour and model as yours and note the plate. It wouldn't be that hard to find a similar car, might take a small while!

Then have plated made up and put them on. I know it wont pass serious scrutiny but it should pass a lot if they do a simple ring in to check!

If you found one in a housing estate it'd be better again cause you could no the plate address!

Then some poor fecker will be getting all your fines!!

You'd land in a world of trouble and guards do have automatic number plate recognition in their cars now.

My advice would be to mount your number plate in the front on a hinge so when your driving the wind pushes it back and when your stopped its hanging straight. Either that or actually stick to the speed limits... its not that hard.

Thats why it would be a bad one however I'm sure the other person would rightfully claim they were nowhere near the speeding fine area and prove it. I'm not doing it, just saying. . .

Jesus lads, if you's are that determined then at least leave innocent folk out of the mix.

    These are widely available.

Some how though, i don't think they gaurds would like them. You'd have to declare it as a modification to your car too, not sure any insurance company in Ireland would be up for taking you on.

I think you can get some stuff in the spray can and you can spray it on the reg plate and it should blind the speed camera so it woudnt be able to recognise your registration plate number.

I've a much better idea : highlight the speed cameras like in the UK and don't use speeding fines as a revenue source!

You would be in serious trouble if you were caught doing something like that, probably jail time. Use your head and slow down, the speed limits are there for a reason.
