    outside:
The muckiest, muddiest, most algae covered and "alive" puddle will be sucked dry with gusto, in clear violation of the existing rules and despite all verbal reminders thereof.

    inside:
-Sir would like a freshly cleaned bowl.
-Sir does not want to drink water that has been stood there for longer than an hour.
-Sir blatantly refuses to drink water that contains even the slightest contamination of dirt or sand, even though said contamination has just been introduced to the bowl by Sir's mucky beard seconds ago.
-Sir will throw around his empty food bowl to great acoustical effect until such time as the above shortcomings are remedied.

    Who's training who here?

That's my dogs all over, everywhere except their shiney clean bowl. Their water is filtered now and the collie esp. likes it much more now than before we had a filter but she'll still prefer to drink out of the greenest muckiest puddle she can get her paws on.

Sounds like sir has been doing very well with your obedience training. Sir would do well to remember that socialisation for his human is very important too.

Have you been looking after my dogs;)

One of mine is so spoilt that when he's really hot in summer he won't drink until I add a couple of ice cubes. He likes to have a drink then fish one out to eat. Like yours he's happy as a pig in muck with stinky puddles though.

I think dogs spend a lot of time training their humans

Lol my pup's the same, she loves fresh water, if you put fresh water into her bowl (even if shes just had a drink) she'll have a big drink. She's a great one for drinking water.
She loves the rain though, sits there and licks it!

And as for what ends up in the water bowl after she's been playing outside. All from her beard!! lol

my lab will search and seek out with huge determination the most foul smelling filthy water possible on each and every walk. After locating it's prey he will then attack with great gusto buy rolling around to ensure his prey is totally decimated and he will then proceed in sharing the spoils with me buy bounding over and doing a victory shake !!

The most embarrasing episode was arranging to meet a load of family and friends with their kids in the grounds of malahide castle for a picnic. It was a scorcher of a day and i decided to give the dog a good long walk before meeting the others to make sure he was as passive as possible ... true to form he somehow managed to locate thick smelly black muck and crap, rolled around in it and then add some 20c+ sun and he was baked nicely, with a lovely pong.

We had to sit about 20 yards away up wind from everyone else for our picnic as the smell was so bad!!

It's a good thing mine aren't fussy, because one of them is very fond of sticking her paws in the bowl and splashing the water over her legs. They get to drink her tasty foot water :/
