    Can anyone recommend a good GPS device. Will be driving around Dublin soon for work and don't know the city too well.

    There is a dedicated GPS forum, you might get a better answer there.

    I would go with a Garmin Nuvi 250, best mapping detail for Ireland. Avoid the TomTom One (they are brilliant in the UK but couldn't even find Ballyfermot for me). Also avoid the cheap Binatone Carrera, you really do get what you pay for with it.

    I think best choice all PNA or PDA software wich using latest (Q1.2009 Navteq) maps. Navigon, i-GO etc...

    Yeah, Any PNA or softwares which using Navteq's map could be fine. Much better than PNAs or softwares which using TeleAtlas maps. I like Navigon and i-GO. Navigon's allways have the latest Navteq maps and i-GO is the best and fastest navigation software.

    He's talking about the basic mapping data that these devices use.
    The mapping data is updated every few months (q1 2009 etc).
    2 companies supply this data, Navteq and Teleatlas.
    Navteq are meant to be better than Teleatlas (for Ireland at least).

    PND= Personal Navigational Device.
    These are your GPS devices that you see on display in places like Harvey Norman e.g Garmin 200/250, Tomtoms devices etc.
    They are (obviously) hardware and software combined.

    PDA= Personal Digital Assistant.
    These are what you might call "palmtops" with integrated GPS chips.
    These were traditionally things like hp ipaqs with GPS chips built in but
    nowadays they are mostly being replaced with PDA-phones/smartphones with GPS chips eg Nokia N series, HTC devices etc.
    For these you just need to buy the software.
    Tomtom do Tomtom Navigator software, Garmin do Garmin XT software etc for smartphones/PDAs.

    But presuming you don't have a smartphone, go with the PND above.
    Can't go far wrong with a basic Garmin (250) or Tomtom i'd say.

    Sorry if you know the above already.

    Thanks for your help. Your post makes perfect sense now. I suppose the Garmin 250 would suit me best as I only want a basic. Is there any point of getting a newer version as I suppose its the map upgrade that matters?
