Our national symbol - the harp, because our country is ran by pulling strings. I love how literal it is.

Nah, being optimistic, the Grand Slam, our positive spirit, our reputation for being good partyers and fun people (NOT redheads and drunks, hate that one). Our united spirit, unique community spirit, and the GAA.

Good one. Except you don't pull the strings on a harp. Well, maybe you do.

We're one of the best rugby teams in the world. We're prob the best horse racing country, we produce world class footballers and top ranked golfers,we're not to bad at cricket despite havin a tiny population to choose from as opposed to millions (Pakistan,Sri Lanka) all of this with 4 million people and not to mention the biggest competition these sports face is our own non-profit sport!!!

when i was walking up croagh patrick(or being dragged up,depends on who you ask!),
every single irish person gave me encouragement and some friendly chat, whereas every single tourist wouldve prefered to have been dragged up by their arse rather than make eye contact with me!thats what makes the irish great

I am so proud to be Irish, and feel very disheartened by alot of the negative comments on here!

As corny as it sounds,we're very unique:
    1. We have our own language that isn't widely spoken e.g:French,Spanish etc..
    2. We have had a hard past but have great fortitude and pride in our country and our identity.
    3. Loyal
    4. Greatest sense of humour in the whole world!:D
    5. Our ability to laugh at ourselfs too
    6. Our countryside
    7. Castles
    8. Watching sunrise on top of a field at 6 a.m
    9. Our long summer days and cosy winter nights.
    10. Our festivals(even the ones that are similar to father ted,at least they provide comic relief)
    11. Our funny slang
    12. Our good looks
    13. Our nature
    14. Our mountains
    15. Our beachs
    16. Our lakes
    17. Kennedy Park!:D
    18. All parks

    Etc...

1.a language which around only 1% of the population can actually fluently speak,a language which was impossible to revive due to rapist priests and murdering nuns shoving it down peoples throats and making them hate it.

2.we still allow a third of our country to be occupied by a foreign nation

    3.to what?

    4.agreed

    5.yes.

6.yes,except we are letting developers and multinationals tear it all up.

    7.ok...

    8.yes good

    9.yes.

    10.yes to all the rest

Yet no one was willing to free the rest of the country, leaving it to a small group of people who ended up going to extremes.

the north was abandoned because the free state government was afraid of england closing its borders to our exports etc

we gave up pretty much a third of our country so we could trade more easily with the uk and europe

and being under freestate rule is not what i consider free but i agree that i am proud of the people who came before us who fought to get us even this far
