what phones work in south korea and japan?

    Am travelling and would like to know what cell phone to buy that will work in sth Korea and Japan?

    South Korea and Japan only have 3G networks so once you have a 3G handset you should be fine.

    back in the day my E61 wouldn't work in korea, could find 2 networks but neither of them would work

    and they don't sell sim cards to foreigners. or sell sim cards separately even? it might have changed but phones are highly proprietary over there.

    in korea at least wifi is scarce enough too. and a lot of wifi hotspots require you to download and install a windows application before you can get in. this is because in the good old days korea thought they were more technologically advanced than the rest of us and had to come up with their own encryption. so any online banking stuff or the like over there will require a similar program. nobody really uses mac or linux over there either. which probably explains why so much spam comes out of that country.
