Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok, this morning i took a right turn at 9am where there is no turn between 7am-10am and lo and beholdi was pulled over about 200 metres after the turn.

The garda said its "normally a 1 point offence" and that a ticket will come in the post.

Now this is my forst time evr to be stopped for anything and fair enough i deserve it.

What i want to know is: Will I get the fine and no point, or will i get both?

also is it possible that they can give you just the fine?

    cheers!:)

it'll be both, you pay a fine then you get the points on the record they have for your license.

failing to pay the fine results in a court appearance and more points usually.

normally a one point offense. what he probably means is that if you deny it and go to court, it could end up being two points. it's likely as well that you will receive a fine plus the point. as long as you do not have more than 4 points, it will not have any impact on your insurance and they are wiped from you license after three years.

generally, you can have two points without it affecting your insurance

Failure to comply with mandatory traffic signs is 1 point (and either 60-€80, not sure). If you fail to pay the FCPS then on conviction in distric court the points go to 3 and the fine is at the judges discression, normally under the €300 mark.

Most companied will allow you to have up to and including 4 points, anything over that and your in touble!!!

4 points without it affecting your insurance. if any company tries to raise your insurance for having 2 give them the 2, fingers that is.

ok, I'm in the same boat only my sin was to go around a corner on a light that had just gone red light. I was told 1 point and fine. This happened about 2 months ago and still nothing in the post. What do I do, say nothing and hope the traffic corp guy just wanted to make a point or what? Thanks.

i think they have something like 90days to complete the forms (the gardai) .... so you might still get it ....or it might have slipped the cops mind and is buried in his/her notebook.

    (Fingers crossed)

My points didn't arrive for months and the bad thing about that is they are not wiped until 3 years from the date they are endorsed on your license and not three years from the date of the incident.

Sometimes the Gardai just act the bollix with ya too. Like the time I was stopped on a push bike for speeding. :) Garda, asks to see my license  I give him my license thinking he just wants some form of ID. He walks off with it and I could see him taking notes. Then he come back, handed me the license, and says see you in court! Never heard from them.

The Gardai are posted at those turns occasionally, not to deter people on the day but to remind people that those turns are restricted. It's the same as fining someone for running the bus lane - there might be any traffic that day but the person caught (and anyone who seems them pulled over) will remember for again not to do it.
