saw this on DVD last night. Very good. Very M Moore style, but you know, I'd forgotten all about the EV-1 - I remember seeing them in CA 10 years ago.

It's on Youtube as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsJAlrYjGz8

Now, I'm a petrol head, but even I can see the ridiculousness of wrecking a good idea.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Yeah seen that a few years ago, worth a watch alright. :)

I'd say GM would have been in a better position today if they had developed the technology further.

I don't think they could have.

If I recall, GM, getting ahead of the curve in comparison to its competitors, sank over a billion dollars into the EV / SV series of cars and trucks, but it was to meet not a consumer demand, but a legislative demand. Basically the legislature ordered the car manufacturers to build a certain amount of electric cars regardless of whether or not the population wanted to buy the things. Stupid.

As a result, GM gets once bitten, twice shy, whilst other companies move in on the more reasonable basis of building cars that the population themselves might want to buy, not what the legislature wants them to build.

A few years since ive seen it but its a brilliant show, theres a it in the middle of it where they show 1000's of EV1's in perfect nic laying in a field waiting to be crushed, there was a lot more than just economics in its demise, GM playing to the oil companies more like.

If anyone wants to see the whole movie just pm me.

Unfortunately, they didn't. It's still very much pre-production.

Slightly OT, but anyone remember the Sinclair C5? I remember seeing it on Tomorrows World as a lad!

...on a related subject, see here: http://www.kiwiev.com/18_2d_inspection.html

I've just spent a few hours reading/viewing everthing. Sounds like a great idea !

But, curiously, the 'Inspection' stage, details the equivalent of Type Approval, NCT/Doe, Road Tax etc.

    'NCT' every SIX MONTHS !

Interestingly, because it's NOT a fossil fuel car, he has to pay road tax based on a per-1000km-travelled basis !! NZ€47 per 1k kms, in fact! That'd mean if my wifes car was electric, she'd have to pay NZ€752 p.a. ! Bloomin' hell !.. (does this mean 'ordinary' road tax is in the fuel......any Kiwi's out there...? )

I'm beginning to like this 'leccy car idea.........

Tom Hanks has a lekky car and swears by it. I read recently that it's just done over 50,000 miles and has never missed a beat.

Which is fine if you can afford an electric car for local purposes, and a normal car for longer distance runs.

    Sadly, most of us cannot.

Electric cars here have just shown up on the motor tax schedule. €146 per annum, which is €26 cheaper than a 1.0L car.

(Why that needs to be delivered via a secure connection is beyond me)
