    Lads,

Does anyone know why Nightforce won't ship outside the U.S. and why they have a policy which does not allow other optic supliers do so either?????

That's for legal reasons, the dealers are not allowed to export certain weapons or parts of weapons like riflescopes. There is a classification of countries, and exports to Ireland are even more retsricted then to other european countries.

I would have thought it was more to do with some kind of fair trade policy, for want of a better word, for example,if people in Ireland are buying Night force optics in the states there not buying in Ireland and I would have thought that night force may have asked each distributor to stick to marketing inside there own continents.Maybe Im wrong but thats what I thought was the reason.

Yep , remember reading about this but cant find the link, its part of Homeland Security and all that stuff, long range tactical shooting gear comes under the export of "sensitive technology" and is designed to stop the promotion of sniping in theatres of war, not only cant you get the gear , but you wont get the "how too" vids either:confused:..you can however source tactical European gear:rolleyes:

International Trade on Arms and Restricted items [ITARS] .

NO it has nothing to do with Homeland security, try more the State Dept and the United Nations, and Mr Klintoon!.

As usual about as efficent as our health dept in doing its service in stopping this sensitive stuff from being sold to the enemy.

Reason most companies wont ship anymore is because ITAR has become a law onto itself and demanding stupid paperwork and money for liscensing companies to export outside CONUS.BROWNELLS is having terrible trouble with them,as are some of the small custom parts makers for pistols, and rifles. The most ludicrious thing is;there is nothing stopping you walking into a shop in the US and buying the most advanced super duper tactical scope and going home with it.What happens then is anybodys guess.
OR simply buying it in Europe.Schmidt & Bender for example.Everyone thinks they are a total US company. They originated in Germany! All their tactical line is available in Europe, that is restricted for export from the USA,albeit a higher price!
Not only that most of these companies are now supplying Uncle Sam and have a MiL contract number[If you see that anywhere on their website, dont bother even asking]That is worth huge money to them in the current bash Al Quieda situation. So it isnt worth their time or money to sell somthing once off to "Ahrieland!":(

Yeah but theres more too it than that grizzly..theres a great dvd set out on the how toos of long range shooting for example and you cannot buy that particular dvd on line unless you are an american citizen overseas and purchase using a credit card which originated in the states.

Snipers in Iraq and other places were being discovered using Bushnell range finders and other bits of internet available gear and there is a policy in force to halt that flow of gear as their own boys are coming up against it- I recently tried to buy a long range spotting scope for example and they wont ship but will ship binocs and other stuff which would have a sporting use only-i will try to find the link on it:)

    Fox,
<MOD SNIP>.Did you try paladin press or delta press? They have a good selection of these DVD and will ship no problem.

As for these folks getting the gear.Their sympathisers can buy this gear in any US sports shop and take it out from CONUS or Europe to Iraq or wherever .
What spooks them is BIG shipments.Like a dozen scopes bought in one shop,or deliverd to a certain address all the time. They know themselves, ant style[one grain at a time by possibly many people] smuggling of this kit isnt 100% stoppable.
Put it like this anywhere the US has allies and this stuff is for sale,a certain amount of weaponary and technology will fall into the enemies hands, and there is little that can be done about it,it is an accepted fact of war.
Example. After the US invated Iraq, and the US troops found Saddams sons personal arms collection[Four bunkers full] and despite a 10 year UN "arms embargo".Usday and Qussay had a fine selection of state of the art, current issue US made M4s,by Colt,Bushmaster, etc .
If you want it bad enough, got the money,it can be got out there.

Got the dvds I wanted grizz- i was also reading that the reason quite a lot of scopes are not being shipped is that anything the US army tests, is then subject to restriction even if not adopted and they test a lot af various makers scopes, but as you say the bad boys can get it anyway:)
