    Hi

Can anyone confirm if i am correct on this

I am planning on importing a toyota avensis t3x from the north
    First Registered December 2006
    CO2 Emmissions 155 g/km

Ok so according to motortax website
    "Cars First Registered Outside Ireland
A private car first registered abroad prior to 1 January 2008 will be taxed on engine size (cc). The new CO2 based system does not apply to second-hand imports that were registered abroad prior to 2008."

So am i correct in saying my car tax would be based on engine size (I think that is 180 euro per quarter) and not CO2 emissions

    Cheers in advance

Car tax will be emissions based but VRT will be CO2 based

Your car tax will be assessed based on the CC of the engine
Your VRT will be assessed based upon the CO2 emmisions

slogue, I know what you mean. I was under the impression all cars first registered in Ireland after 01/07/08 were to be taxed under the new system. After reading the posts here I went to the the motor tax site and it's confirmed. There goes my plan of importing a 2 litre TDI!
