Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nice pic JTC83 but unfortunately it doesn't qualify. It was taken before the start date.
*No old photos. Only photos taken with this task in mind qualify - sorry. Therefore, dated 25th June onwards.

    Sorry!

    Sorry!

That'll teach me to read the rules more carefully in future
Anyway, I'm just glad it got a positive response, was pretty nervous about posting alongside the level of posters on this board. :)

Love the first one. The girls look well impressed with their day out:D

BTW, if you want to enter pics, do them in individual posts so people can vote for the one they like.

Take a look at the Women and Photography "sister" post in the Ladies Lounge. I got a ban from LL! Seemingly I was arguing with a moderator on a forum.

Anyway, even though I disagree with the ban, I take it on the chin! And it's only right I withdraw my entry here too. Might be presumptious, but seeing as it is one of the top voted for I won't take the chance.

    Hang on a minute!
Don't see why you should remove your entries, you've a very good chance of winning this one! Whatever happened over in the LL has nothing to do with here, so lets not do anything hasty.

I'm away to the LL to see what's going on.

    Don't remove your post.
Nothing to do with LL in here

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,079 ✭✭✭xia

You are banned for a week in LL but not here. Right? So why do you limit yourself here now?? Not many people would have known about your ban. So fair play to you for mentioning it. (Well at least I don't follow that thread)

I think you should put your pictures back into this assignment. There are a lot of people (me included) who liked at least one of them. If they now decide they changed their mind they are free to remove their vote. But that to me than would be a decision on you as a person and not on the pic itself. And I think one should decide on the picture not the person. That's me, not remembering right now every single picture you posted :o

    Just my two cents.

    Plus, That's our job! :D
So as xia pointed out, if we want to change our mind, and impose a punishment for you being rude - we can easily do that!

Put your pics back up, you've made a good contribution here so far, and let's move on :)

Apologies for taking this slightly off the topic of the post!

Although I do agree with you all in that this has no link to the LL forum, the topic that got me posting there originated from an OP and topic here. So it was very tightly linked imo. And obviously I was debating something completely unrelated to this assignment.

But all in all, there was somewhat a forum cross over, and I feel me getting a ban may not reflect highly on exactly what actually happens in this forum. For that reason I'd rather not be the one starting the next assignment. I've deleted the picture from photobucket at this stage, I can't see me putting it back up. If we do get an influx of photographers resulting from the thread that was started let them join in on an assignment that wasn't started by a banned poster! ;)

On saying that, I may not even have won it (I was only a couple of 'thanks' ahead last check). :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,967 ✭✭✭mrmac

Sorry KarmaGarda - I understand your sentiment, but just don't see the point?

Anyone can post here, and everyone is ALWAYS welcome. That, IMO, is one of the best things about the photography forum - you are not judged for who you are, or where you come from, or for what type of techno gear you have (or what you've done elsewhere). You can be laughed at, but never judged (lol) :D

You've been an active participant here, become one of the "regulars", so if you win this assignment (not saying you will ;) ) it's because other people think you deserve to win. You can't argue with that!

Thats absolutley ridiculous. Do you really think that all women resent your pictures because of what happened on another forum? You argued with a moderator on thread and got banned, it would have happened in any other forum on the site. I don't think this thread is the place to discuss it though. Feedback or Help Desk are there for this sort of thing.

/edit: Just read more of the posts there and you are taking your pics down because of what happened in another forum? Really? I don't think people look at the username or care whats behind the username in this forum especially (lol @ irony of the original reason for thread in LL though ;) )

The ban can remain, even if I don't agree with it. I won't bother arguing with it. I don't post there that often anyway so it won't really affect me too much.

Yeah. I did take them down. Might have seemed rash. And now by doing so I've drawn far far too much attention on myself that I both regret it and most definitely will not put them back up!

I think I might lay low for a while... anyone know someplace quiet? And do they serve beer there?

This was taken on a dark evening around 8 pm on the side of the road - with a 300mm lens at f4 - 1/200th of a second(very hard to keep that steady)

I probably should have upped the ISO from 200 to 800- but as it happens the farmer had opened a gate the sheep were on the run into an adjoining field - where there was no camera view.

Then cropped to 25% of the original image.

So maybe a little leeway is required

Just so I can do bette the next assignment - maybe some of the non-voters for the 'White Sheep of the Family' could tell me why it did not attact their thumbs up and give some C&C

I thought it quite good myself as it was not a set up shot like most here(including most of my efforts) and it was a reversal of the usual 'black sheep among white.' (One person actually went to the trouble of removing a vote- so there seems to be some issue with this photo!)

With regard to the rules - it was taken specifically for the competition last Monday near Letterkenny - and there are NO alterations to the shot other than a crop and a slight contrast adjustment

Just genuinely looking for some feedback on this for future reference.

I love the concept behind the picture, but as far as photos go, I don't think it's a great shot. I probably would have waited until the white sheep had caught up with the other ones and intermingled a little. In saying that though, I understand you were tied for time as you were stopped dangerously.

So points for spotting and taking a risk to take the shot from me, and points deducted for the calibre of the pic.

Now, whats wrong with mine? :)

keps, I'm new to this particular forum too, but I don't understand the constant need that you seem to have to question why people aren't voting for your photos.

I think this particular assignment more than most has lent itself to shots that could be set up more so than other assignments in the past few weeks and therefore there are some photos that I wouldn't vote for because I don't think they are particularly interesting in comparison... but aside from that people have personal opinions too and might just not like the photo. There are some photos in the thread I didn't think were particularly good examples of the theme to the point that I was left wondering how they represented 'One One Out'. Your sheep photo is not one of them because the connection is quite obvious and I liked it because it wasn't set up either but it's just not everyone's cup of tea. I wouldn't get too bogged down to be honest.

I entered a photo for this assignment for the first time, it's the one with the shoes on the telephone wire. It fits the theme and I spotted them on the way home one evening last week so I took the photo. I also liked the fact that I didn't have to set something up. But aside from fitting the theme I don't think the photo itself is all that interesting (self criticism!! :pac:) The shoes are light in colour on a pale sky and if i was to zoom out any further to add a bit of colour and background to the photo, the point of the photo would have lost it's meaning as the shoes would not have been clear. But it loses out the other way as well.

Anyway point being, C&C is welcomed on the forum from what I can see from my short time here, but constantly whinging about 'why didn't anyone vote for me?' is annoying in my opinion. I don't see why everyone who didn't vote for your photo has to justify why they didn't. I don't think that's what the forum is about.

My favourite photo of this assignment (so far!) was KarmaGarda's smiley faces on fingers photo. Reason? It fitted the theme and is a good photo. Real reason? It made me laugh. :D

Some C&C on this so. I thought the picture was clever in what you achieved, but unfortunately the picture itself lacked quality. I understand that you were under certain pressures to take the photo, but unfortunately that criticism has to still stand. If only you had more time, and got a better quality shot, you would have gotten my thumbs up for it. :)

I didn't vote for yours for the exact opposite reason! I think it's actually an excellent photo, but for the purpose of the assignment I think it's a little weak. Now, if you had posted this in the Random Thread you would have gotten a thumbs up from me :)
