Every night its the same routine, get into bed,and lie there staring at the ceiling until it gets bright then getting about 4 hours sleep before getting up again. Its killing,I feel like the dude in The Machinist, without the horrible hallucinations:pac:

Anyone else suffer the type of crippling sleeplessness like I do?

I do stay up ridiculously late hours but I don't think it's insomnia. I could probably go to sleep right now but I prefer being up at this time procrastinating on the internet and sleeping during the day.

Most nights it takes me ages to get to sleep, but once I'm asleep it takes something very loud to wake me up! I could never sleep just 4 hours: feck the brightness outside, I'll sleep through that no bother.

ha, in school, i used to be lucky to get 2hrs sleep most nights. would then just doze off during classes (french, maths and bio, usually)... get home, and would usually leave homework till bed time and stay up doignt that then. just didnt like sleeping and it didnt take long for my body to get used to it (granted, once to twice a month i'd just crash out for about 12hrs, but the system worked), though did accidently manage to set fire to my bed while i fell asleep one time when the lamp i used for doing my homework fell over onto my mattress, and emmm... yeah... lamp's hot... mattress is flammable... the smoke puts you into a deeper sleep...

    This is my routine:
    Wake up, feel tired.

Middle of the day/Afternoon, not tired.
    Evening/Early night, feel tired
    Late at night, not tired.

So I just roll around in bed

I've been unable to sleep properly for that past week... I'm gong to bed at half 11 and not sleeping until after three, then up at 6... Watching it getting brighter as I'm lying there is awful.

My quality of my sleep depends on the amount of stress I have,at the moment I sleep like a baby because im chillin' for the summer, where as if I had a college project to do Id freak out and just end up looking at the ceiling for hours on end,a countless number of times.

What I find helps if something is wreaking your head when you try to sleep, have a notepad + pen handy and just write down whats botharing you,and work out in your head how you can solve it/ ideas, works like a charm! Then sleeeeep...

I used to worry, thought I was goin' mad in a hurry
Gettin' stress, makin' excess mess in darkness
No electricity, something's all over me, greasy
Insomnia please release me and let me dream of
Makin' mad love to my girl on the heath
Tearin' off tights with my teeth
But there's no release, no peace
I toss and turn without cease
Like a curse, open my eyes and rise like yeast
At least a couple of weeks
Since I last slept, kept takin' sleepers
But now I keep myself pepped
Deeper still, that night I write by candle light
I find insight, fundamental movement, uh
So when it's back this insomniac take an original tack
Keep the beast in my nature under ceaseless attack
    I gets no sleep
    I can't get no sleep

I'm getting plenty of sleep just at the wrong times :D

Last summer, I was going to bed between 7am and 11am, getting up around 7pm - 9pm, and that kept up for about 1-2 months....

trying not to do the same this year

I have a terrible habit of staying up late for no reason at all... Te amount of pointless all-nighters we pulled during college was ridiculous.

Instead of spending hours on-line, take a break for a walk or two during the day.
I had to walk an average of 14 miles a day for the last 3 weeks, insomnia was never an option.

I kinda used to be like that, not so extreme though,a nd to a certain extent, I still am sometimes. I read it somewhere, and it really helped, that if you go to bed only when you know you're gonna sleep. Associate your bed with sleep. If you're lying awake, tossing and turning, then get up, go downstairs and eat something or read the paper and try going to bed again after a while. I always works for me. Hope it works out for you. :)

I'm in a perfect routine now. Lift weights about 4 hours before bed then eat dinner. Puts me straight to sleep.

Same here. I could go up to bed now and go to sleep in about 30 minutes after reading, but sleeping is for the dead. :P Nonetheless, I'll sleep until 12 tomorrow, which annoys me too (hate getting up late).

I did an all-nighter last weekend too and was up for more than 30 hours and it threw my normal sleeping pattern I had after the exams (bed at 12, up at 10) completely off.

Every year, as soon as the school holidays come round I work myself into a rut of going to bed at ridiculously late hours and waking up in the early afternoon. :(
Not to mention my pain in the arse freinds call at like 1 o'clock when I've barely managed to drag myself out of bed.

Hopefully I'll be able to break the habit next year when I get a job at Supervalue ... :D:p

My late night person nature is being slowly but surely killed by 7 or 8 o clock starts at work :(

Yeah that's fair annoying. One of my friends lives pretty close and if I'm in bed he's left in anyway to wake me up...not a great way to start the day. Then I have to listen to him drone on about how it's better to go to bed early and get up early. Now that I mention it, people who do that are so annoying. You don't seeing us blab onto them the advantages of going to bed late and getting up late.

Tell me about it, my brother thinks 10.30 in the morning is pushing it.
Yet I vividly remember him staying in bed till' about 2 o'clock when I was younger.

    Hypocrite much?:D

I have to admit,I quite like staying up late, its a couple more hours I can play my bass, post on Boards etc.But its when I get down to business to try to sleep my mind just wont stop, even if my body is wrecked!

I wish it were more socially acceptable to sleep all day and do things all night. I am such a night person. The daylight is wasted on me.
Maybe thought like this contribute to my inability to sleep,Y/N?
