    Boards.ie is becoming far too strict. Even in after hours which is renowned for taking the piss and joking it is now deemed bannable to say anything which someone would take offence to. It seems that some Mods even ban if you simply say something they don't like. When did After hours become so serious? It seems the mods are locking threads just for something to do in the last week I have seen countless threads locked that had the potential to be interesting for no reason other than the mod seeing an opportunity to get a witty comment in before locking the thread or just locking a thread for the sake of it. Its pathetic.

    This is just me hypothesising now, so feel free to call me out on it, but might this complaint have anything to do with posting some jokes in a thread that included "CHAT, NOT JOKES" in the title, with several warnings throughout the thread from moderators that posting jokes would result in getting banned?

    AH mods have posted so many times in that thread to other users not to post jokes, yet you still done it. Tbh patience wears slim and I'm behind them all banning more users for ignoring their warnings. A mod has the right to only repeat themselfs so many times and you know what, you have become an another example to the rest of the users.

    Ya know if there was a thread in after hours entitled 'post here to get banned from after hours' and you subsequently got banned, would you not think that you walked into that one also?

    Its not being PC at all. Its being asked for follow moderators requests!

    If a mod were only to mod and not take part in the actual posting on threads ( bit like a soccer referee who's on the pitch but doesn't take part in the game ) then that would be one thing but if threads are locked just on the whim of a mod because he / she is bored or just for the satisfaction of being able to put a lock on a thread , than that's another thing .

    Might the question of what is required to become a mod be the issue ?

    Just my 10 cents

    No I only posted that reply to that thread as I was quite annoyed that the mods decided to make MJ jokes off limits just because he was liked. When George Best died there were tons of jokes and nothing said and I see nothing wrong with that as it was in Afterhours in the soccer forum they had a more respectful thread on Best.

    But Since when did Afterhours of all places become so PC?

    So you saw all the warnings, all the examples of what happened when the warnings weren't heeded, and you still continued in, eyes wide open, and now you're complaining about being subject to exactly those same warnings? I have to admire your stubborn bloody-mindedness, if nothing else.

    Hmmm, busted bang to rights Guvnor. There is very little in my rather empty little life that breaks the boredom more or gives greater and deeper satisfaction than locking a thread. First you click a little checkbox (mmmmmmmm) then you click on a dropdown (oh yea) and then you push a button (ooooo miiii goddddd!) Nothing in life quite measures up to that feeling...

    ~~~
    Anyhoo, the AH mods are more than able to argue for themselves but dead celebs have real families and often young kids. When the kids get older do you want them googling thier dead parent's name and finding a bundle of sick jokes? Would you feel comfortable if you had the power to stop that happening and didn't? The jokes can be done elsewhere, why do it here as well?
    Well I was just expanding a bit of the OP s theme ie, why are some threads shut down and not others ? Mods getting / not getting satisfaction for closing a thread is another thing , I dont know and not actually concerned either way about peeps empty little lifes tbh
    I think you might be assuming I agree with the OP regards a certain thread being locked because of offensive remarks when in fact I totally agree with mods locking of them .
    My feeling on this is that you're just pissed off because I have to keep telling your buddy to stop flirting on threads and trying to turn AH into a chat room.
    Deja vous.
    You hear the admins coming no now "we cant hear you cough" cough ahem
    the bull**** just starts.
    We (cough) are here for the super duper society and we are here to super dupery defend this site. Which means we are here for 99% and we cant provide for the 1% percent.
    So we admins are going to jack off to porn, and pretend its only 1percent of the site, that is getting fed up with the bull****..
    But I'm really only just saying! Excuses excuses. Thats whats coming from people who refuse to solve this.
    The !percent argument is just lame at this stage.
