Sorry to butt in but may I ask: what are the differences between Eirtext Pro and the regular Eirtext that is free?

    Thanks

O2 are helping investigate the issue, so I cannot give a timeframe.

I don't believe it's an issue that can be fixed with a software update, but let's wait and see.

    Vinny.

    Vinny,
Been using the free version for a while and works 100%. I'm willing to invest a few quid in the full version for international texts but there are obviously some issues at the moment. If you could post an update when you think you have the problems solved I'll launch into it.
    Thanks,
    FLCP

Thanks. If you're using the free version without any issues, then you won't have any trouble with the Pro version.

The problem discussed here affects both versions of the app (not to mention any other app trying to access O2.ie, including Safari), but only for certain users on 3G.

    Vinny.

The O2.ie login issue over 3G/EDGE should now be resolved.

If you're still having issues, pop over to the support forum.

    Thanks,

    Vinny.

    Hey Vinny

I'm having a problem with the message count. It shows 0 remaining, but on o2 webtext site it shows 150. I know O2 release an update on their app, because for the last couple of days it showed under the webtext "Site Unavailable", it has been resolved in the new update. Should I just uninstall and reinstall Eirtext PRO to fix this???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,819 ✭✭✭speedboatchase

Sadly it still won't work for me, had to change my price plan from free o2 calls to free o2 texts :(

No, I need to push out an update to fix this. I'm currently testing the update at the moment and will submit to Apple when it's ready.

The app will work fine, it's just the counter that's broken.

Been using Eirtext Pro for 1 week now and it is a magnificent app. Well done to those who designed it and continue to offer support.

The update that addresses this should (hopefully) be available in the next few days.

Just an update on this - When I reinstall / turn of push / reboot, etc - It works for a couple of texts then fails constantly.

I need to reinstall each time and reboot which obviously isn't feasible..

Ay updates on the issue / a resolution?

    Thanks

    Hi Vinny,

I'm having a similar problem. It just says logging in and goes no further. I need to reboot my phone and then it works for a few messages. I'm a using EirTextPro on vodafone.

My update, applied this morning, worked for a few hours (only sent a couple of texts) and then locked me out. Refusing point-blank to launch now. Furthermore, it no longer appears to be in the UK App Store.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭vinnycoyne

There was an issue with the update, so I had to pull it from the store. It's now been fixed, so I'm waiting on Apple to approve the update.

Sounds like a network issue. Try reboot the phone.

The 3.2.4 update has also been approved and is available for download now.

Just downloaded it: rebooted phone, too. No change, still refuses to launch. Any suggestions?

Working now. I was forced to delete it and re-install, which I really did not want to do. However, that appears to have fixed it.

    Vinny,

As per my earlier post. Eirtext Pro won't connect via Vodafone only on Wifi. It seems that the Push option isn't available in my settings. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

Can you log in to the Vodafone.ie website in Safari when on 3G?

Can you log in to the Vodafone.ie website in Safari when on 3G?

This is actually intermittant and something I've mentioned to VF with no response (as usual) a few times.

For some reason, using the Live APN only, you cannot log into 'My Vodafone'. It just kicks you back to the login prompt again. Using the HS or ISP APNs results in a 100% success rate at logging in. This is the cause, I presume, of the reason Eirtext Pro doesn't work reliably with the Live APN using Vodafone Webtexts as I presume the app is logging into 'my vodafone' behind the scenes.

Quite annoying for me as I only use Eirtext when abroad and thats when I 'need' to be using the Live APN, so more often than not either have to send a normal SMS or find some free wifi to be able to use Eirtext.

    Thanks for that info.

Keep pushing VF on the issue. O2 had a similar problem with their Internet APN a few months back and their engineers fixed it.

Vinnie, I have been out of the country for a while and came back and this issue now seems to be solved. So it must have been the network. Thanks for the help and apologies for thinking it was on the software side.

not for me, they used to, but stopped after an update while back ??

maybe a re-install might do the trick, i assumed there was a bug...
eta, no joy after a reinstall, prob some jb related conflict, no problem, i can live with it ! but it used work, thats the strange thing

On second thoughts, I'm actually running a prerelease version that fixes the issue. It'll be out in a few days. For some reason i thought it was out already.

    Hi All,

With the Eirtext Pro version updated for iOS4, The new features (downloading messages sent on o2.ie, not just your history from Eirtext; fast switching; background sending, etc.) and the new UI are really nice - another great improvement by Vinny.

I have noticed on the 3Gs that it sometimes may not get past the "updating address book" stage, just returns to home screen.

Here's a tip to get it working that I discovered. If you bring up the multitasking bar, Eirtext Pro is still running down there. Where you start it from there it opens up properly and you can use it to your hearts content.

It's probably something that will be sorted soon, but overall another great improvement on an already excellent app.

I am running Eirtext Pro on an iPhone 3G so do not have multitasking. I have the same problem of not getting past the "Importing Message History" message, and the app just crashes/returns to the home screen.
Any advice on how I can get past this so that I can use this great app?
    Cheers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,176 ✭✭✭vinnycoyne

Thanks everyone! And apologies for the issues - we spent almost three months testing this build, but there are always a few bugs that manage to sneak through.

For those having issues, I'm currently working on the crashes, so they'll be fixed in the next update. You can keep track of what's going on by visiting the support forum @ http://support.eirtext.com.

There are also some tips to try if you'd like to get it back up and running yourself (although if you have a large address book - e.g. over 500 contacts - you might have to wait for the update)

If you have any other problems or suggestions, you can also use the link above.

    Thanks,

    Vinny.

I had similar problem to you or when it didn't crashed in the Message history I will see 1 account for eachtime I open the App, fixed it for me by deleting the app and doing a new install.

Eirtext Pro had got very slow on 3.1.3 for me (don't know whether that was O2's fault though...)

Anyway the latest version on OS4 is amazing. Fires off group mails quick as you like! Back to saving money on texts!

How do you send group texts? I could do it on the older version but now I can't. When I press group the screen goes blue and I can't select any of my contacts

Today I just used an older group mail from my sent mails - but now I see the setup has been changed for new mails.

In a new mail you search from you contacts and add them. Then you're prompted to type your text. If you click HIDE you can then go back and add more contacts. They are displayed in the top bar as you add them.

any way i can go back to an old eirtext pro version, as a paid for app, i'm extremely unhappy with the new UI and i can hardly send a text without it crashing and returning me to home screen
its very annoying, this used be a great app, when things were kept simple, and it just worked
if any one can point me in the direction of an ipa i can install myself, i did pay for the app so i think i should be allowed go back to old version ?

My wife has the same problem on a 3GS with 3.0 firmware.

The older version should be in the trash, go there you should see the "Original Location" select it and restore the item, after go to that location and drag it to your Itunes it will ask you to Replace so say Yes to it, that way you get the older version back.

I'm also getting very frequent crashes when attempting to send a text. 3GS iOS4. Very frustrating when you're sending a long message.

If you're experiencing crashes, please send on crash logs so I can diagnose the problem. You can find full instructions on how to do this here: http://www.vinnycoyne.com/?p=221

You can report bugs & give feedback over at http://support.eirtext.com
