If its out in stores on the 25th, will it be on itunes tonight anyone know? The itunes stores says expected release the 28th.

I was looking forward to getting it tonight.

Dunno. Asked earlier, planned getting it tonight too. Will be getting up at 12 regardless, just in case it pops up. Work be damned!

Liking it so far. Change of direction. Love the playfulness of Here Comes The Night Time.

Apparently the full album is streamable here

Hmmm... not popping up for purchase on itunes. Guess it really is the 28th on there.

Hopefully will be able to pick up my physical copy in town tomorrow instead...

Fantastic album, well worth the wait!

    Also someone figured out that if you play the hidden track at the start backwards you get this;

Ugh, it's showing up as available, but for some reason itunes won't let me download it.

I was so impatient that I made another account using a different credit card, and it says 'temporarily unavailable'. I give up! Will have to wait til tomorrow.

This isn't very good at all :(

No, I think I prefer Neon Bible to this one myself. Maybe this will be their Kid-A? I don't think it's as good as that album though tbh.

Listening now, half way through side one and its all gone a bit dub reggae, really fits with the movie in the teaser video!

Having listened to it more I think I like it a little better than Neon Bible which I didn't enjoy due to its murky production (as someone else in this thread said). I liked Awful Sound and Orpheus.

Been listening to Funeral again recently and I think it's one of those albums which fade with time. Some songs are still very powerful but I don't find myself wanting to listen to the whole thing through like I used to anymore.

When it really kicks off at about three minutes in, it makes me very happy!

  • Registered Users Posts: 164 ✭✭RoboAmish

Like it quite a lot actually. It's a lot more subdued and reserved than I was expecting, which I dig. Not sure about ranking, but it is probably their most cohesive work since Funeral. Different, but good.

Really? I find it such a downer. Good song though.

My first impressions are pretty good - Joan of Arc is the stand out one for me so far , and Here comes the nighttime is pretty solid as well

I also happened to procure tickets for their LA show (now have to convince my boss that I can take a day and a half off...)

Sound gone from the video on youtube today. Listened to part of it in work yesterday and sounded quite good

I hated it at first but Reflektor sounds godly in FLAC. Still goes on too long though.

Giving it my first listen. Wasn't sure what to make of it after the first four tracks but Normal Person is bloody brilliant! Here Comes The Night Time is strange, it will definitely need a few more listens to "get". Still think the title track is too repetitive, don't see it growing on me much more.

As with any magazine or website reviewing our like people here- how can you have a full analysis + review after 24 hours... Impossible.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,362 ✭✭✭K4t

^This (take note The Ticket magazine and you're 50 word reviews..

    Waiting for pitchfork's verdict.

Afterlife I feel would have been a better choice for early release over reflector. Absolute tune.

    Really?

If you either enjoy or don't enjoy an album why would you give a crap what Pitchfork thinks?

Pitchfork has slated some absolutely brilliant albums and bigged up some absolute rubbish.

    Horrible,horrible website.

Don't let some hipster douchebags dictate to you what you should or shouldn't enjoy. You'll feel a lot better for it.

24 hours is plenty of time to build an informed impression of the album. Most of the reviewers have probably had more time than that anyway. Agreed that it's stupid to get hung up on what other people think. Personally I think the Arcade Fire's magic is lost but this album isn't bad either.

Arcade fire 's Bridge school benefit concert set. Acoustic versions of some new songs.

I gave it a few listens to let it sink in. At the moment I'd rank it as their weakest album to date. It's certainly not a bad album I can say, but just not as good as The Suburbs and Neon Bible and a long way off the splendor of Funeral. There's a small handful of songs that I'm not really that keen on, but there's great songs on it as well such as Porno.

It's a departure from The Suburbs and I respect the band trying something new even if it doesn't seem to quite work. I also feel it lacks the intimacy of their previous work and has a more detached, escapist feel. Not among the best albums of the year but not a bad effort none the less.

Typical, they arrange two smallish shows in London the week I go on Holidays.

11th/12th November if anyone is interested.

So far I think it's very good. I like the weirdness of it. Takes me about 20 listens to make judgement so it's early days.

    9.2! 9.2!

Pitchfork have spoken so I can now declare my fondness for it.

I bought it on itunes there. What's the story w the track before the 1st one. Is this only available on the cd as a hidden track? :/

Going to grab myself a ticket for Glasgow on the 15th, then have Queens of the Stone Age on the 16th. Should be an awesome weekend. Hopefully not many have picked up on "The Reflecktors"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,902 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Live performance of the album from last night.

After listening to it a lot over the last few days it's gotten better but only slightly. The middle few tracks (end of disc one, start of disc two) drag a lot but it picks back up eventually with Afterlife.

    A 6/10 imo.

Edit: Setlist for that live show

    1. Reflektor
    2. Flashbulb Eyes
    3. Afterlife
    4. Supersymmetry (with Perfect Day intro and Satellite of Love outro (by Lou Reed))
    5. It's Never Over (Oh Orpheus)
    6. We Exist
    7. You Already Know
    8. Normal Person
    9. Here Comes the Night Time
    10. Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)

Not a dreadful album but their weakest by a long stretch - too bogged down in arrangement and production quirkiness and not enough songcraft for my liking.

Sounds like a band who have nothing left to say lyrically so they are throwing loads of **** at the wall to see what sticks. Heavy on Irony and playfulness to the point where it seems like they are embarrassed to be a rock n roll band.

Ironically even with all the attempts to make a weird album by tacking on lots of weird **** they have created some quite dull and mediocre indie rock songs here by their own very high standards. Not to say I don't like some of the album, I really like "We Exist" and "Porno" but as an album overall it lacks truly memorable hooks, melodies and is not my cup of tea sonically. Too arch and too pleased with itself to connect with on the same level as previous efforts.

overall, very disappointed. really like Afterlife. Joan of Arc and Reflecktor are good. i really don't get the point of the last track.

this album really growing on me. i prefer it to suburbs and wayyy better than neon bible. dare i say it, might even be better than funeral... must listen more.

Normal Person and Joan of Arc are the only two tracks that stand out as significantly weak. The rest is excellent.

To be fair, Arcade Fire's output is so brilliant usually and the expectations for each new release so high it's difficult to tell how the new album would be received if it was by a newish group. Even AF at their worst are pretty great. I might warm to it in time but I don't think it'll be one that I listen to much bar the odd one or two tracks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,115 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

I thought The Suburbs dragged in the middle, and this one does as well. Here Comes the Night Time and Porno are cool though...

  • Registered Users Posts: 27 newb990

I'm pretty disappointed. Its good, because its Arcade Fire, but honestly if I didn't already know the band I don't think these songs would stand out to me. Its been less than a week and I'm already tired of them. I think I ruined the impact of the album for myself by listening to the live tv special too much.

Faves are We Exist, Joan of Arc, You Already Know. Least fave are Porno, Awful Sound and Supersymmetry. I think those three are even weaker than the weaker tracks on The Suburbs.
