A protest by angry traders is taking place at Priests Road in Tramore this morning after a bank moved in to close a flourishing local indoor market.

The former Londis supermarket premises at the top of the town has gone in receivership. A receiver was appointed by ACC bank on June 23.

The site has not operated as a supermarket for some time, but recently has served as a market for local producers and traders. Yesterday’s development means that unfortunately the 30 or so stall holders who have been operating on the premises will now either have to move to an alternative location or shut up shop entirely.

“I have contacted the Minister for Food and Horticulture Trevor Sargent to see if there is any way that he can assist stallholders in their present predicament,” Mr O’Shea says

Heard about this a while ago. Not sure the exact current status though. Shame that the stall had to leave as a result, surely this was seen coming from whoever owns the building?

Is it a 7 days a week operation? If only a one/two days a week thing then they could nip across the road and use the CC car park maybe.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday with plans to open on Thursday. Its more ideal for indoor use rather then outdoor use really.

Not sure if they are the same stalls or not, there is often smaller stalls set up in the car park. Might be the same, not sure though.

Hopefully the bank will view the indoor market as a viable long term business and will look to sell it with the current tenants intact, surely it is could make finding a investor possibly easier in these troubled times and the bank won't be in too much of a hurry to empty the premises.
Off course they're might be legal implications with this that makes it unattractive
or god knows what the banks are thinking these days.

Not exactly surprising that this was closed down by the banks

Just a note to say that most of the traders that were in the Indoor Market will be setup in what used to be Hincks's garage, Main Street, opposite the "Carry Out" off license, from Friday 3rd of July. It will be run under new management and has had huge support from the people of Tramore.
    Q.

No sully it was where the market is now going, the town definetly doesnt need another take away

I thought it was the old pharmacy/butchers beside the Off License and not the old carpet place which is where its going now?
