Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was thinking of ordering something from the B&H in the US but am wondering is there any point if I'll get charged a sum for Custom charge.
Anyone know if I'd get screwed over <<snip>>?

if you do a search with the words customs in the arts->photography category you will find lots of discussion on the subject of customs.

Irish law is clear. Purchasing something from outside of the EU means that you are liable to pay customs / import duty.

Moderation Note: To subsequent posters - No discussion is to take place with regard to mechanisms of customs avoidance. This is prohibited across the entire boards site.

    Thank you.

I think they ship either UPS or Fed Ex, UPS will auto pay the charges and then make you pay them when they deliver.. Fed Ex do the same but send a bill for you to pay later.

Its actually VAT that you pay and as said above UPS will look for payment before releasing the goods.

Yes you will. It adds VAT, Customs Charges and some other tax if I remember rightly.

Yeah, i get hit every single time.
These days though, i tend to wait until the g/f goes to New York on shopping expeditions in November to buy lenses and stuff (and, oh! it's conveniently right in the middle of christmas present buying season, hehehehe)

Basically by law you have to pay the charges, you may get charged you may not but at the end of the day its breaking the law to try and avoid it or lie to customs.
