Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Its a 98 Model, Jap import.

    135,000miles on the clock.

    2 onwers in this country.

Fluid is proper ATF, light pink in colour little below the mark,

no leaks underneath, no service history.

Basically, select Drive and nothing happens! Fecked isnt it.

    Engine sounds fine.

Seems it. But 135k is not excessive for those boxes, then again it's a Jap import so who really knows the true mileage?

Still might be worth draining oil & dropping the g/box sump and seeing what comes out besides oil. I can't remember but I think there is a seperate filter below the valve chest.

Did it lose drive while in use? Was there any odd noises from it before it was parked?

    Engines are bullet proof.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

I was thinking that myself. Maybe it already had 150k miles upon import and not the 50k displayed :D

    I have a 98 GS300, I know it very well.

Does the gearbox make any noises/movements when you change gear?

Can you change gear without pressing the brake pedal? (You will hear a click from a solenoid that will allow you to change gear)

Do the dash lights change for the gear?

Is it a 4 or 5 speed box?

    NEED INPUT!

Ok if the 135k is correct it's time to get a professional to check it out - worth the cost imo.

I suspect this car has been sitting for a while. This is a long shot but try this. Start her up and let idle for 20mins and then see if your getting any drive.

Do the little green lights change when you change the gear? P R N D 3 2 1?

If it stays in P, check your selector mechanism.

Place chucks on under front wheels, Jack up ONE rear wheel, place gearbox to N, hand-brake OFF, can you turn the rear wheel reasonably easy?

did he change gearbox oil recently? It happened to me once. Changed oil and all gears were gone but reverse. If thats the case clutch disks are gone.

That A340E 4-speed gearbox is designed for lots of power, so a straight 6 wont kill it (not unless it was run very low!). It is the same gearbox in a lot of V8's and the mental Aristo & Supra Turbo!.

Id be surprised if its a big job to fix, do let us know!
