I was just wondering, how did the drivers / crew get into the AT-AT Walkers? Rope ladder? Trampoline?

In return of the Jedi the show an AT-AT walking up to a raised platform at the Endor Base. That's one way they could have got on.

It took a bit of researching but it turns out that they get dropped down to the planets in these:

And you can see a cross section showing how the crew probably board them here:

I might be imagining this but I think I remember once seeing a drawing of an AT-AT in a crouching position so that the crew chamber was at ground level.
    Not sure though.

I'd say it's one of those things they didn't really think through, until RotJ.
Like how did Jabba get that Rancor into that hole?

He was probably in there since he was a baby.

He was probably in there since he was a baby.

He was discovered by a bunch of Jawas after the shuttle transporting him crash landed. They claimed the beast as salvage of a sort and sold him to Bib Fortuna, who gave him to Jabba as a present.

As for getting him in the whole, the palace had a lot of layers, they probably just walked him in the basement cargo doors...
