Hi, not sure if this the right thread but I am trying to uninstall Nokia Software Updater for 2 days and having no luck. I get 2 error messages.

1) Error 1405. Could not read value C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Software Updater\nsu_ui_client.exe from key . Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
2) Installation operation failed. Fatal error during installation.

I have contacted Nokia who replied:

:pac:I suggest that you re-download the Nokia Software Updater to your computer. Kindly note that in order to download contents from the Nokia website successfully, it is advisable to disable any anti-virus systems, pop-up blockers or firewalls. In the event that any of these are active, then the Nokia Software Updater or its components may not be downloaded completely.

Both "nsu_ui_client.exe" and "nsl_host_process.exe" must be allowed to
access Internet through your firewall

Please refer to the steps below to troubleshoot this issue:
1) Click "Start" > "Settings" > "Control Panel" > "Add/Remove Programs".
2) Uninstall "Nokia Software Updater" (if there are more than one entries uninstall all of them).
3) Check the following directories (if they exist, you can delete them): C:\Program Files\Common Files\Nokia\Service Layer
C:\Program Files\Nokia\Nokia Software Updater
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Service Layer
4) Reboot the PC and the phone.
5) Disable any anti-virus systems, pop-up blockers or firewalls.
6) Download and install Nokia Software Updater from the following link:

I removed all the folders as described above and disabled my firewall and anti-virus software but was still unable to uninstall the NSU software.

I have also given Nokia my PC specs which met all their requirements.

Their final comment is now:
:pac:Please note that the correct uninstallation method is to remove the software through the Add/Remove programs option or through "Uninstall". I would suggest that you consult Microsoft or your computer's technical support for assistance as it appears that your Nokia Software Update's system registry files cannot be removed.
It would be best to take your phone to a Nokia Care Point for a software update.:pac:

Software Update is free in the nokia service point, Try re-install if that helps, or find a friend and update from his computer.
