I am considering setting up a wedding video business.
I have experience of using a camcorder and editing- using Pinnacle.
I have produced two wedding videos and other productions( non professional). I have a full time job so this would only be a part time venture.

I have been carrying out some research into this area
would really appreciate some guidance tech advice on the whole thing..
    thanks.

what sort of equipment have you got? Get some more experience under your belt so that you make mistakes now and not when you're being paid.

get a decent website/business cards made and get the word out that you are available for work.

make some sample DVD's to give to potential customers to watch and see the standard/style of work you are offering.

    Hi All,
Thanks for the replies.. muchly appreciated.

I have started to carry out research in this area.
First port of call looking at various websites and seeing what they have to offer.

    Then deciding;
    what training is required
    camera to purchase
    website, cards, pr stuff.

initally my main concern is the amount of money i need to spend to get going.

You'd be looking at roughly 20k.
Off the top of my head, some things you'd need:
    - Good quality cam, e.g. Canon XH A1
    - Backup cam
    - Shotgun mic
    - Wireless mics for capturing vows and speeches
    - A light. Try to use it as little as possible though
    - Tripod with fluid head
    - Monopod. If the monopod and tripod have the same plate and it's quick-release then that'll make things easier.
    - A good pc
    - Good editing software. Personally I like Sony Vegas

That's most of the main stuff. Then other things would be:
    - Other audio capture device for backup audio, e.g. Zoom H2
    - LANC controllers. I find these handy
    - Decent cases to carry everything
    - Backup batteries for all your equipment
    - A few USB drives to backup your work
    - A good printer for printing onto dvds/blurays
    - Advertising. weddingsonline.ie would be a good start.

dvinfo.net is a good resource for info. It's based in the US but a lot of it is relevant to here too.

    Hope that helps.

1 - 2k definitely wouldn't be enough. A decent camera alone is gonna cost more than that.
Sony Vegas isn't too expensive so I would definitley consider upgrading to that.
When I say 20k, you wouldn't necessarily need to have spent the 20k by the time of your first wedding but you would need to have the essentials bought. Also, market yourself as a beginner.
As important as equipment would be training. Try http://www.filmbase.ie/
