Yep. Much hatred and venom I saw yesterday from the pro-abortion activists.

It was a real eye opener for me I can tell you...

If you pro life gentleman can stop patting each other on the back for a minute or two - what do you think of the above? There's one of your fellow pro life compatriots urging people to join the march....and....oh

Here's what he thinks about abortion and rape:

Now this is the thing guys: If you're going to march with people like this, you might get nazi salutes thrown at you. And you really can't complain much about it.

This nameless, faceless individual may well have been at the march and may well hold those strange views re the 'White Race'. But I didn't here anyone expressing them. However I did see the Nazi salutes and hear 'you should have been aborted' from those on the side...

Anyone have a link to a gallery from yesterday?
I've only seen two (galleries) on Indymedia and 2 pics in our Photography section.
I'll try and get my pictures up as soon as I get my battery recharged.

    So what if it does..?

I'll be voting No to Lisbon 2 but not due to any Abortion issue...

However in Ireland during the 1980's many pro Abortion people spouted the 'Liberal Agenda' and as its top priority was access to abortion in Ireland.
I'm curious to know who these "pro-abortion people" are? "Anti-abortion" is a label presumably applied to those who do not want anyone to have an abortion, so "pro-abortion" is the opposing view, i.e., abortions for all? Could you give some examples of individuals or groups who hold this view?

Amongst the many reasons for my cynicism towards the extremem anti abortion lobby, their attitudes to European Referenda outranks them all. Coir tell blatent lies about Abortion, euthanasia, and gay marriage. Libertas told some whoppers in 2008, but Coir continued to proffer the same, trite rubbish, that they had during each referendum campaign since Maastricht.

We have guarantees up to the hilt on the issue. Furthermore, the treaty pays no deference to abortion at all. They take one declaration completely (#17 I think) out of context, and use that for their conservative aims. The political reality of the situation is that the ECJ respect the position of Ireland, Malta and Poland. They deem it to be a "area of special significance", and purposely fail to force Ireland to toe the line with the rest of Europe. They feel that it is too trivial an issue to cause a split within the Union.

I remember being outside the Four Courts during the Miss D case (Pregnant teenager, baby was going to die soon after birth, was being denied access to tavel) on a Choice Ireland solidarity picket when out of nowhere the whole Youth Defence machine rolled into town, those MASSIVE posters, rosary beads and all the rest.

Visually you have to hand it to them, they can do a demo. Were it not for the colour and the HUGE 'Life' banners and balloons it'd look like any standard Saturday afternoon 'Down with this sort of thing' affair.

turgon, you've won the Motivational Image award 2009 with that one!

Are you referring to "Nell McCafferty, Nuala O'Faoláin, Doireann Ní Bhrian, Liz McManus, etc."? Because they're not "pro-abortion"; they're against the position held by Coir, Youth Defence, etc. Or is it simply a case of "you're either with us or against us"? Anyone who isn't "anti-abortion" must be in the other camp?

Laying down a marker right now. This thread is not a discussion on the rights and wrongs of abortion, and will not be allowed to become one.

The next person to describe someone else by an loaded term like "pro-abortion" will be banned.

Anyway t'was a grand day out and roll on Belfast 2010...:)

I just read the Yoof Defence site for the first time in ages and I notice they refer tot he pro-choice movement as, and I quote, "the pro-aborts"
    http://youthdefence.ambarn.com/campaigns/lifeability/miss-d-case/

Also, absolute sickener to see they got a private audience with the last pope. Suppose they don't have google in the Vatican. Also there are photos online of them talking in front of groups of school children in North Mayo, you'd have to question why any school principal would allow an organisation like Youth Defence access to children like that (Or even the same with a Pro-Choice group, surely its undemocratic in a school setting to give one group a platform like that, and theres pictures of the kids holding their newspaper too)

Belfast will be an interesting one, both sides of the debate seem far more active in the North of Ireland.

    http://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/Abortion-supported-by-majority-.4608247.jp

Very tricky one. Unlike in the South were you've a movement that essentially operates out of one building in Capel Street (and can be written off as insane upon one google search), in the North you have groups like the DUP and even the liberal SDLP in agreement, while the choice movement is just as large giving recent polls. It'll be a showdown in the future, seeing as the Labour Party have constantly stressed their desire to see changes to the law regarding terminations in the North.

Thankfully the Pro-Life movement transcends Sectarian boundaries where Catholic, Protestant and Dissenter unite for the Unborn... True Irish Republicanism in action... Wolfe Tone would be proud...

Funny how there's no pics from the SWP/feminist counter demonstrators. As they had photographers lying in wait...:)

My better pictures have been sent to one of the prolife groups in the UK.

Here though are one picture of the counter demo. It's not very good. Partly because I was pretty much past them when it occurred to me to take a picture. I didn't really want to antagonise them which is perhaps why I hadn't taken a picture when I had a better opportunity.

The other picture is Norma McCorvey, of the Roe Vs. Wade case, who spoke at the rally. She now has a 'Roe No More' campaign and is now firmly prolife. It was interesting to learn that she actually kept her child and it was put up for adoption.

There is one good gallery of pictures taken by the 'counter-demonstrators'. I'm not going to post a link though as the site is very rough and offensive. The pictures though turned out pretty well!

I'm sorry, do you think all those of a pro-choice persuasion are Socialists and feminists or just those who were at the counter-demo?

AlsoUltra -vid, going on those photos I'm not seeing the massive young adult presence which yourself and tommy claim were there. Seems to be to be a crowd made up largely of middle-aged/older people accompanied by a large number of young children, who I'm all sure we can agree, probably didn't know their reasons for being there. Other than to swell the apparent ranks?
