Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey can anyone recommend anywhere I can get cheap tyres for a 05 Nissan Almera in Dublin or close by? Don't really fancy paying through the nose for new tyres.

I got 2 tyres for my focus two weeks ago at whitehouse pub sunday market.
They are remoulds at €22 each great value. Did my NCT last week and passed.

They also fit them for €5 a tyre.

In my opinion, this buying policy is somewhat suboptimal from a safety perspective.

I thought this myself but they are genuine British Standard saftey approved tyres.

But are they European Standard Approved????

Myself, I wouldn't put re-moulds on a wheel barrow, never mind anything else.

Two things I never scrimp on is tyres and brakes. As you said they are what keeps you on the road.

Haha, of course.. this whole safety thing is just a marketing ploy...its not like they do tests on this sorta thing ..pftt!

I'll beep when I pass you stuck in the ditch!

FFS if you don't care about your own life, put on decent tyres for the sake of other road users!!
And yes you'll find you can get good deals on very good tyres, yet I would never call them cheap.

I have a cheap tyres in my car and when driving in the wet I don´t have any grip untill second gear, first gear is only wheelspin and the car is 50hp 800cc Matiz.

A great idea to save with tyres, indeed

Good thing however is that Matiz will go to car heaven soon and I will get a proper car with proper tyres.

Get the Bus... Then you still probably be travelling on remould tyres.

The amount of BS that gets spouted when someone mentions remould tyres.

Nearly every airline in the world uses remould tyres. Alot of bus and truck companies use remould tyres. I also know of quite a few taxi men using remould tyres.

Where are all the statistics of deaths caused by remould tyres. All accidents relating to tyres are caused by deflated or bald tyres not remoulds.

    Rant Over

The sooner the better... let's hope the car gets to heaven before you do!

Let me back up robtri's comments: there are only four 15x15 cm patches of rubber keeping you out of the ditch. Don't go for the cheapest tyres OR the most expensive. Do your research and find out what the best tyres for your particular car are, and then fit them, regardless of the cost.

Do without a few takeaways or a few nights out, but for God's sake don't scrimp on tyres.

    Hi all,

Don't mean to hijack the thread but as it's on topic and you guys seem knowledgable can you tell me what you think of a brand called "Ceat" tyres? Apparently they are an Indian subsidiary of Pirelli but I don't buy the line that "they're the same as Pirelli's just cheaper because they're made in India"!!

I need 4 x 225-45-17's for my Saab 95 and I've been offered 4 Ceat's for €100 each fitted or 4 Firestones for €140 fitted. Had Pirelli PZeros before and was very disappointed at how quickly they wore down i.e. 6,000 miles or so and I'm not an aggressive driver. Currently have Firestones which seem to have lasted a bit longer i.e. 9,000 miles or so.

Based in south Dublin. Anyone got an opinion or advice on what the best tyres to get are in terms of value for money i.e. road holding/stopping performance Vs price Vs longevity and where to get them? Definetly don't want to save a few quid and end up with crap which will get me in trouble in an emergency. I've a family car and do a good bit of driving with the kids on board so trying to balance safety Vs economy. Nice trick to pull off if possible eh?

    Lookin forward to the responses.

    Ben

For a start you should be getting a lot more than 9,000 miles (14400kms) out of a set of tyres! Something is wrong there.

I've put up 30,000 miles (48000 kms) on mine, and it looks like i'll get another few kms out of the front yet. The rear are nearly perfect.

I have to agree. If you're looking for the best prices this is defo the place to go.

eiretyres show all available tyres at excellent prices & will deliver them to a fitter of your choice.

    It's a win win situation. :D

The tyres I'm buying are €15 each cheaper from camskill than eiretyre. ;)

If it's just a regular car and you just want regular tires there's not *much* of a saving buying online as you will still have to pay cq. €15 a corner to get them fitted. Best value I've found is Sandyford Tyre Centre which is located, funnily enough, in Sandyford, D18.

generally you get what you pay for, there are some good cheaper tyres, but cheaper is relative, also, people are being ripped off, guy above has been offered some indian shiite for 100 a corner, look at my pot below to see what a rip off that is

someone is trying to rip you off totally, you are being offered terrible tyres at inflated prices, either call sandyford tyre centre and ask him what he can do 4 falken fk452s for, or buy them from camskill.co.uk and get him to fit them, do not buy the tyres you asked about!!

    actually i just looked

    http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s15p0

you can get frikkin goodyear f1s for around 100 a corner, the falkens are about 70-75 euro plus 15 fitting, and far better than the crap they are trying to sell you :(

good toyos on there too or the best of all vredestein ultrac sessanta

see the kendas are at the bottom £41.50 :rolleyes:

Thanks all for the input. Cyrus, you're the man.

I know the Sandyford place. Are you saying the falken fk452s are the best rubber to get for my needs? I'm looking for long lasting good performing (grip and braking ability!) at the best price. Not looking for anything specialist. It;s a family car so no rallying round the place. Mostly 130km cruising on motorways, tipping around the city and the odd weekend away up and down the twisty roads down the country.

We sell tyres wholesale. Recently we got a delivery off budget tyres. When put beside a BFG you would think the Budget is made of plastic and not rubber. Even though these all have the same speed and load ratings as the BFG. These also are for the European market.

I was at a presenstation that explained all the different ratings and how tyres were made. We were also shown the difference in materials used. This is why I would never put Re-moulds or budget tyres on a car.

Get the right tyres at the right price.

*** This is not an attempt to sell tyres, we only sale to wholesale with customers who have accounts ith us ***

I think their is a differince in tyres. I have 2 tyres on the front of my Focus, 2 runways they are cheap as i googled them. They came with the car when i got them a year ago. They feel and look like plastic and are ment to be very very hard. Have done a little under 16k on them so far and they still look new. Will get to around 45k at this rate. The back tyres are a better brand and will need to be replaced in the next 5k.

Had to do some heavy breaking over the winter. and only for my anti lock breaks i think i would have ended up in a ditch (and this was at low speeds)

When was the last time you saw tyres advertised on tv? I would never base a purchase on anything like that with anything other than a collection of reviews across the net from people who know what they're talking about!!

Put a set of cheap tyres on and drive the car..then put a set of good tyres(not necessarily expensive) on and check the difference for yourself.

I don't think you understand much at all... even if they were made in the same factory(which I highly doubt!) they would not have the same technology in the wheel ie. thread pattern, water dispersion, durability.. all effecting the performance and grip of the tyre. All tyres are completely different and one tyre which may suit one car may not suit another.

This is not about a marketing thing or following the other sheep or thinking that you must pay for the most expensive ones purely because they are that..the most expensive ones! Its about getting the right tyre for the right price..which can not be gotten for the price you're going on about. Tyres alike brakes are very very important to the safety of a car. Tyres are NOT expensive for the job that they do especially when compared with the price of the car.

And incase you haven't read the thread properly..no one is pushing any one brand and the discussion is pointing out how you can get good tyres cheaply instead of ****e tyres(and a death wish) for even cheaper.

BTW people following marketing&advertising is NOT why the country is the way it is...such ****e!

Cyrus, you're the man. Did my homework, Falkens score very well in all the reviews and ended up getting 4 x ZE912's from Camskill for €80 delivered. They seems to be better suited to my needs than the FK452's i.e comfort, value, longevity and solid performance Vs high performance. + €15 a tyre for fitting and I have tip top rubber with little hassle and a lot of piece of mind.

    Way to go!!

    Cyrus, RobTri et al,

Anyone seriously interested in getting the best deal possible (which means proper tyres at a good price) then I honestly can't recommend the Camskill route highly enough. Ordered 4 Falkens Friday afternoon. Took me 5 minutes online. They arrived Monday morning to my house, popped them into the boot, went up to www.thewash.ie in Sandyford who fitted all 4 for €50 and took away the old ones. There is a proper coffee shop on the site so I did a bit of work, had a coffee and went on my merry way with 4 brand new top end tyres (for my purposes) fitted all in for €370. When I called around on Friday I was being quoted anywhere from €150 a tyre to €230!!

I saved a minimum of €230 with zero hassle and the tyres are at least twice as good (comfort, performance and wear and tear) than the Indian crap I was originaly offered at €100 a tyre.

Thanks all. Once again my fellow Boardies turned up trumps!!

    Ben
