Heard a rumour this place is closed but is opening again in a couple of months. Does anyone know what the story is?? Was a great Pub. Right across from the college. Would hate to see it gone. A great alternative from the college bar.

Hear hear. But they did nothing with it for years and allowed it to get a bit run down looking, especially the couches there etc.

But the atmosphere in a packed Charlies beats Scribes any day of the week. Used to be my local :D

    Charlies FTW

feckin true, we got kicked out of scribes during rag week as we didn't have tickets for the blizzards. We'd spent the day drinking there, couldn't get our hands on tickets (weren't arsed moving from the pub), but still got turfed out. went over to Charlies, had a great time. Later heard there was feck all there for the billzards. haha, ah well, Charlies got our money.

yeah definitely a different atmosphere. I preferred the old Scribes anyways, the newer (yes i know it's been like that a few years now) Scribes seems confined and sectioned off, whereas the old layout was way more open, more of a band/gig bar, which was in my opinion better.

Back in my day the pints in bendans were always terrible. Is the tack room still on the go?

Never drank in it when it was Brendans :P
Tack room is still on the go. But the cow shed at the back is closed during the summer if I recall correctly :P

    It's a lot longer than 10 years!

It was Charlie Browns when I was there but everyoen called it Brendans for a couple more years. The Tack Room was always packed but Scribes hit it hard when it opened. What about the sgs? Some great bars over the down for a crawl. Harveys, Seans, connacht bar, Higgins, the keg, nutts corner, the arden etc

Yeah, its been redone inside and they are doing food as well. Had the burger and it was very nice. They don't have a credit card or debit machine yet, so make sure you have some cash on you if you are going in. My only complaint would be lack of atmosphere. Possibly due to the fact that anytime Ive been in there there was only about 3 people propping up the bar. It doesn't have the 'dead' feel of the Tack Room, and maybe once the students are back it might liven up a bit.
