Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

VW Golf Steering Tightness

Was just driving my car there a few minutes ago and suddenly the steering became tight and the battery light came on. Luck enough I wasn't far from home, so I made it back. I'm not an expert, but I think it might be the steering rack...

I will be bringing it to the garage tomorrow, but in the meantime, does anybody have any idea what could be wrong? so I know if I have to brace myself for for paying for a big job on it. Cheers.

    Maybe lost your fan belt.

Or you have electric power steering and your alternator is faulty.

Depending on the year of your car.

    Most likely a slipped/broken belt.

Battery light means a charging fault. This can be caused by a broken belt. This same belt often runs the power steering pump so It would be a fair guess to say you need a new belt. Any squeeling noise from the car lately?

Open the bonnet to see if there are some pulleys missing a belt! It would be fairly obvious
