Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Leather seats

Folks, anyone know a reputable place that will do leather seats conversion and rough cost to get it done? Just want to compare price with what I've been quoted by the dealer. The car has heated seats so will that make a difference to the price and would it affect the warranty of the car by getting it done (in terms of the electric/heated seats)?

I mentioned it to my local mechanic the other day (thinking of buying a car with linen seats and getting them upgraded) and he said you could be looking at a cost of somewhere in the region of €2000 to make sure it's done properly. This would include the side panels to give it a professional look and that's where you run into difficulties due to the airbags being located there.

He's just done a Passat for me which came to around €1,750. Not heated seats but electric / ISOFIX. Shouldn't think the heated seats would be an issue.

Top, top quality work. Door cards, front and rear armrests all covered as well as the seats.

At €2000 Id be looking at getting a replacement set from a scrapyard

    What car is it?
    Is it under manufacturer warranty?

You will need to find a full interior from a written off car with the same electric seats as yours except in leather. Uk is best for this. Fitting cost would be big enough too as it will include, seats, door cards, some side panels etc.

You cannot just go recovering seats on modern cars, Due to side airbags etc, I specific strength of stitching is used to allow the seat to burst open when airbag deploys. To simply recover could be dangerous

might be another option, I have seen a few people do it in the past especially in land and range Rovers...

buy a leather interior for the car from a car breaker and swap the seats over :)
easy job, swapping seats...... as long as you get a good condition interior...you could save a fortune

for example, here's a mondeo MK2 leather interior including door cards up for grabs on ebay...

Depending on the size of your car, you're probably looking at €2k for retrofit leather upholstery.

I've always used Cartronics or Autoglaze - no issues with either of their work.

No worries about airbags etc either if you go with a reputable company.

its a new car and I've been quoted 2k by the dealer, so it looks like they are in the right area price wise

I've seen another on the lot that has the leather done and its top quality aswell

I've seen Cartronics work and its excellent - they do a lot of work for dealers, so chances are your dealer would pass on the work to the likes of them anyway.

Cartronics did my previous car, excellent job with leather that was superior to what you would get from the factory. 8 years later and it still looked new.
