    I'm looking at putting in a 12 volt d.c lighting system and want to know what safety precautions are needed i.e fuseboard, fuses, cabling, lighting..thanks

    have you any more detail on the system you're planning to fit .lighting load (led?).dimming or on/off ? remote or local power supplies ?mains or battery or mains w/battery backup.i'm not that 'au fait' but theres plenty here knowledgeable on this.
    for a mains system anyhow the quality power supplies seem to have thermal,overload and short-circuit protection inbuilt .some of the led bulbs have internal driver and connect to a regulated power supply

    Make sure your connections are perfect, preferably soldered.
