Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Mazda 121 belts screaching

    Hi all,

I have a 1994 1.4l Mazda 121. My father changed the power steering belt, fan belt and oil filter recently. Since then, when the car is on there's a screaching sound, I presume one of the belts. He's tried tightening and loosening the fan belt but it hasn't stop the noise. The sound gets worse when the car is revved but it does seem to go out of it after ticking over for a while. Also, since the belts were changed it seems to run at lower revs, so low that twice it has cut out when left idle. To keep the revs up he has the back window heater turned on!

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

It sounds like one of the belts is not 'gripping' the cog or pulley as it should be. cheak for wear, it might be overtight? I know the noise your talking about though and its really annoying to listen to.

If there's 2 belts, he can spray silicon spray onto each belt - when it quietens, that'll be the offending belt. To tension it, it should be adjusted so that the belt can be twised 90 degrees.
Also, since the belts were changed it seems to run at lower revs, so low that twice it has cut out when left idle. To keep the revs up he has the back window heater turned on!

He would have to ensure the belts are tensioned correctly before looking at this. I'd doubt that the belts would be the cause, probably more to do with idle control, it'd have to be checked out.
