    :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    Well see who the f**king idiot is when the chip stacks take ages to set up and suddenly half the field with an 8k stack starts shouting for the td to come over because they claim that they 100% earned the points required for a 10k stack.

    Result = Chaos.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,276 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

    I do agree it sounds very hard to manage, to organize hundreds of players into seats and then give some 8k, some 10k and sort it all out sounds mega hassle but im sure Stephen has plans to keep it all running smoothly, rather him than me though.....

    I can definately imagine there will be loads of swearing and whatever else going on when people notice they are starting with a short stack. Still, it doesn't seem too hard a target in order to get the extra few chips.

    Last year I opened an account for my uncle (just to play this tournament) who is in his 60's and just doesn't play on the internet at all. He loved the tournament and said he wanted to play again this year. He still doesn't play on the net (he hates computers) and if he wants to play this year he will have to start with 2000 less chips then most of the field. I think that is very unfair considering he is paying the same buy-in as everyone else.

    I know this tournament will porbably be sold out in a few weeks but what would happen if it hasn't sold out by the end of September? What incentive is there for people to register in October if they have to start with 8000 chips.

    I just think that with live tournaments with everyone paying the same buy-in everyone should be treated equally no matter how much they play on the site that is sponsoring it.

    The chance to win 50k from a 250 buyin?

    If Boyles or someone don't sponsor this it doesn't go ahead. There is no other tournament like it, hence why you have so many people from across Europe to play it. We are lucky to have it on our doorsteps. Boyles have added a lot to it, it's not unreasonable for them to find a way to make a profit.

    There is no way they are going to make money out of this solely from each player racking up 500 vip points. This is a marketing campaign, and likely a very successful one at that i reckon. fair play to them I say, like you said without them in it the game wouldn't be happening.

    its not too much to ask just to play on their site for a short while imo

    Hi All, I was away at Oxegen for a few days so just getting back into the swing of things. Cheers for all the great feedback and keep the registrations going...We are one week into our promo campaign with the European/ International side of things due to kick off now. We have 148 players fully registered as of this moment :).

    No ladies event this year Grafter, Ciaran wanted to run a Round of Each tournament instead, so I am blaming him :)

    Must have taken you a long time to edit that one into something you could work with :)

    Hi MD, we know what we are letting ourselves in for we are going to run it like clockwork. I hope people take me at my word when we say that.

    With regard to any confusion from players over whether or not they have reached the target, again there can be no complaints over this as communication is going to be very clear from both Ciarán and myself on here and from the whole BoylePoker team (Ciarán will be able to verify this but as far as I know everyone is going to get an email at the start of Sept & Oct to indicate whether or not you qulaify for the 1,000 & 1,000 bonus chips).

    Cheers all,
    Stephen.

    Hi Bobby, the idea behind the IPO has always been that it is primarily aimed at online players. The kind of value we are able to offer here can only come about because of the value that online players have to a site like Boylepoker.com...I gave a very similar answer on thehendonmob a few minutes ago where I said something along the lines of;

    "We are aiming for it to be a level playing field all around...We want 100% of the players that take part to play a little bit on BoylePoker in August and September and then start the International Poker Open with the 10,000 stack.
    The idea of the IPO is to make Championship poker available to every player but its a little bit of a paradox too because the IPO is also really only aimed at Boylepoker players :)"...

    What I would say to you is that we really don't want your uncle to miss out on the tournament, because the players are what make any tournament happen. But if he won't play for a couple of hours online in August and September then I can understand why he would be upset and might even want to give it a miss this year.

    Cheers,
    Stephen.

    Hmm I see an opportunity...

    Anyone who doesn't like the idea of having to play to earn their chips, please send me your SN and password and I will clear the requirements for you for the meager sum of $30....1300x$30 = first prize money imo :D

    Seriously though...the way you've structured the bonus looks bad for the reason that a player will think, 'oh this sucks I have to play if I want to get the full 10k chips', whereas if you had given everyone 10k as with last year and given people the opportunity to earn another 2k it would look a lot more like the 'bonus' that you're marketing ie people see it as something on top, rather than being compelled to make up a shortfall. That's my basic marketing psychology 2 cents anyway. Is it too late to change?

    Don't get me wrong I think this is a wonderful tournament and I take my hat off to you (and Boyles) for what you are doing. This is probably the only chance players like me will get to play a big tournament like this. We will definitely be playing again this year, really enjoyed last years tournament. In fairness my Uncle is probably going to be the only player there that does't play online so he will just have to accept the fact that he has to start with less chips.

    do they not just give you your extra chips when your getting your seating card, easy solution

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,079 ✭✭✭smurph

    look,
    the Seating draw last year was done well in advance of starting time.

    Everyone will have the Seat number and name, then if they are qualified for the bonus there should be something like a B beside their name.

    The dealer at each table has a printout of said sheet and gives an extra 2K to the people at the table with a B beside there name.

    Eazy peezy....... kinda

    Hi Zuutroy, I know it looks bad and we were expecting a good few players to have a problem with this promotion as its a change to the normal but we're doing our best....The reason we couldn't give the 12,000 starting stack is because of time restraints and the way I am looking at it is that we should be able to get 99.9999% of players to get the bonus chips so it is essentially still a 10,000 starting stack.

    Not really, Boyles deserve to have something extra out of this for the effort they put in imo.

    You can reply if ya like.

    Ah yeah I'm not bothered and I'll prob manage to put in the hands, I'm just curious if the complaints are a psychological thing with people having to 'make up' the round number rather than getting something on top of it.

    Me and my mate have just registered for 1A, wahay :)

    Really can't wait, there's a few of us coming over, jolly up in Dublin one night, plenty of cash, and hopefully send the ~£35k

    Not fussed about the earning VIP points thing. Just fussed about the money I'll lose earning them! It's not that big a deal, if you don't like it, don't play. There won't be a shortage of players to fill this fantastically run and great value tournament.

    People only need to rake €14 in tournament fees each of the months i dont see the fuss.

    is that all? in that case makes massive sense and dont feel like being robbed! cause if your paying 250+25 reg (275) for 8k chips, €28 euro for 2k chips is super value- just think of it as extra reg and play it! good spot!
