    Hi everyone,

Just wondering what your favourite wines are?

I definitely prefer white! Haven't really tried that many, but I do like Cloudy Bay.

I'd never liked red wine at all, until I tried Chateaux Lynch Bages when I went on a tour there a few summers ago. I can't even recall the taste now, just remember thinking it was really nice :)
I know it's hugely expensive... my parents got a few bottles for a birthday of mine that's coming up soon(ish!) so I can't wait to have some again then! :D

It varies, but here are a few I like that spring to mind, in no special order. All excellent, try them if you come across them. Prices range from about €16 to €30+

    Reds:

    *Sierra Cantabria Rioja Cuvee Especial

    *Meerlust Rubicon

    *Torres Celeste Ribera del Duero

    Whites:

    *Pieropan Soave

    *Zind Humbrecht range

    *Kim Crawford Spitfire Sauvignon Blanc

    Firstly on the OP:

Im presuming your a girl and probably in your twenties??? The reason I say this is that most women tesnd to prefer white when younger as its easier to drink, whenever you go out with a gang of girls theres always someone drinking white so its easy to share. Plus white doesnt make you sawny like red, it gives you a whopper of a headache though!!

The Lynch Bages is not really what you'd call a monday to friday wine!! If your thinking about getting into Reds and you dont want to break the bank then Id recommend somewhere like Marks and Spencers as you will get excellent quality and a good price.

My favorite is Red but White is a must with fish dishes. On the reds I like

    Saturday and Sunday wines!
O Leary Walker Australian bout 20 euro (Irish winemaker)
Zenato Ripasso Valpolicalla Italian bout 20 euro
Yalumba Shiraz Viognier Australian bout 15 euro
Domaine Aonghusa Corbiers France bout 20 euro (Irish Winemaker)

On a budget Mon - Fri wines

    Marks and spencers own brand:
    Granache Noir French bout 9.99
    Barossa Shiraz Australian bout 12.49
Tasmanian Pinot Noir bout 12.49 (got a Decanter bronze award)

Some of these wines are very powerful but if you want to step into the land of reds you need to taste some of the classics. The big Shiraz, the light Pinot, the smooth Merlot and then just keeping buying different ones. The one thing that annoys me about some wine drinkers is they find one wine they like and just buy that forever!!! How boring..

Anyways to OP happy upcoming birthday :)

Tesco do a decent Ripasso and Chianti Classico, worth checking out.

I'll occasionally splash out on Amarone, heartily recommended.

I don't do white wines

Tasted an amazing white wine in The Bodega in Cork last week.
    Pares Balta's Blanc de Pacs.
It's an organic wine made from Cava grapes : Parellada, Xarel.lo, Macabeo.
I think it just might be, for me, the nicest white wine I've tasted to date - flowery, appley, spicy but very dry on the palette.
    Can't recommend this wine enough.
Now I gotta find it wholesale!
    If anyone knows where??:)

Another favourite white of mine is Teras Gauda's O Rosal.
An Albarino blend from Rias Baxias, also Spanish.

Sounds good. I must give it a bash the next time I'm in the Bodega. I don't know who distributes it. I thought that it might be Mary Pawle, the organic wine specialist, but I don't see it on her list.

I had a different organic Spanish white a few weeks ago that I loved. Modest price too, just €11. Two thirds Xarel-lo (one of the Cava grapes), the rest Chardonnay. Reviewed it on blog.
