Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Picking up the car next week end in Holyhead...

I know there is a long thread somewhere, I searched period, can't find it. Why not make a sticky? Only suggesting...

Anyway what do I need to register the car here, just the VR5 thing?
The guy has a HPI report, everything seems to be in order.
I know about the car and things I should know so I am ok.

I just want to make sure from an administrative point of view if I only need the VR5 (Is it the correct name, that the registration cert right?)

    Cheers in advance

Personally I find sticky'ed 40page threads useless. The info at the start is out of date and the end is people waffling on about something they saw or heard.

Anyway, you need the V5 (no "R") to register the car here. The owner should take part of it off to mark it as exported from the UK, but you need not worry about that.
On the subject of waffe, this is a VR5 in motoring terms :) :

Ah oki cheers mate for the clarification.
So there is a small part of the V5 he needs to detach right.

Nothing else should be written on it right? Like "Sold" somewhere or anything else?

That could be anything from a 520i to an M5, we need specifics.

mick.fr - All you need to register the car here is the car, the V5, and the money. I'd recommend you do your own HPI check before you travel just to be sure - ring HPI and tell them you want an RAC check, it's the same thing and it only costs £5.

might as well avail of the cheaper supermarket prices and fill up the boot :D

as posted above, make sure you get the complete V5 document, except the small bit that the seller keeps for permanent export.

have your own hpi report done.
have a good look round the car, but sounds like you have that sorted.

also, have you got a definate quote for VRT? just want to make sure theres no surprizes for you when you get home!

ps - what E39 are you buying?

Ah ok. Well Holyhead there is not so much to shop around.

I did get a quote online, car is not a M (Difference is double between the two models) so I should be ok.
How do I get a definite quote, call the VRT office I suppose?
I am getting a 11 years old one, nothing exceptional

Why didn't you go the whole hog and buy an M5? They're getting very cheap now. You'd probably buy the car your getting cheaper in Ireland than in the UK and paying the VRT on it. Big engined cars are almost impossible to shift here as a result of the ludicrous road tax that has to be paid on anything over three litres.

The M5 is manual only, that'd be a deal-breaker for me on a main car.
