Presume you can pick one up for €3 - €4 nowadays!

All I have is 1GB, 2GB's and 8GB's.. I need a small one to store about 13MB's of files on my WDTV.

Anyone got a link on the cheapest one they can find?

    No link for you sorry,

but I got a 2Gb one free from a drug company a week ago. Bug some company enough and they'll probably send you one. Especially if you are only looking to get a small old one.

I actually don't think you can get 32mb USB sticks anymore. I think they start at 512mb. You could get a 32mb memory card (maybe from an old mobile?) and then get a USB memory card reader.

Yep.. from a quick Google, I think you're spot on Dman.

Found a 64MB one gathering dust in the press so that'll do!

    Cheers lads.

Get yourself some old copied of the News of the World from yesterday (check your local newsagent), they were giving away free USBs for the new Bruno movie

Why not just extract the files to the HDD that you have your media on?

    Sorry, should have explained.

It's a linux distro (or bastardised WD TV firmware) that's required to be loaded on boot (via a USB key).

    What's the point of it?

Some of the features already added:

    * connect to wired network via a Ethernet-to-USB device
    * connect to wireless network (experimental)
    * mount network attached storage (Samba, NFS, SMB) and stream video (reported speeds around 20-60Mbit/s, fastest with NFS)
    * run a light webserver and execute PHP pages, e.g. to mount network drives
    * run SSH, telnet, ftp servers
    * run other software which can be added as separate (not part of firmware) "app.bin" packages
    * support additional file systems, especially ext2, ext3
    * support for attaching external USB-connected optical drives (i.e. CD/DVD players)
    * modifications of the theme (background images, etc)
Give this thread a read for a brief outline and links

Amazing basquille, I love smart tinkering like this. If they pull off the connect to wireless network part..

Just pick up one of the supported dongles.. shouldn't be a problem!

Picked up the D-Link model for a tenner on eBay.

RT73 (Ralink), is very common, I think about 2 out of 4 adapters I have are RT73.
